The rainy season finally ended. :)
In my last post I had just gotten most of my flock back and the hens were in bad shape. I culled most of the roosters and separated the breeding roos into individual runs. I have two roosters protecting the free-grazing flock. Things have calmed down a lot and...
I picked up a new hen today that is a total mutt but I think she's so pretty.
She's on the small side, has 5 toes, feathered toes and shanks, and a head crest. the crest is bigger than my crested cream legbars. I feel like she's a Faverolle-Ameraucana-?? cross but I don't know much about head...
thank you for your kindness, it has been very difficult. but as you said - i have them now and full control over their care. they're doing loads better in just a few days.
We are finally moved up to the homestead and about 90% of my flock is now up here, too. I AM SO HAPPY.
For the last year, my flock has been at another farm while we were transitioning out of town and up into the homestead. They were not cared for well. Over winter, I lost 2/3 of the flock and...
i've never had either of these breeds, i'm excited to watch them grow out.
i figured it was an EE! especially after i saw the spelling on the receipt. this is my favorite one in the batch, i love how it looks like a little owl.
ok that makes sense...i just didn't think that hatcheries spent...
Murdoch's had pullet chicks and I went into a tizzy and picked up one from each box without looking too closely. I don't think I even breathed until I got home lol.
Below: this chick came from the mystery bin and the one I'm not really sure of the breed. Maybe a legbar or a welsummer cross...
so i guess i'm just working on zombie parentage for now then, and watching the legbar traits over time.
my paint rooster hatched out as a weird color, like a pearl color with a khaki? chipmunk stripe of sorts. i don't know if all paints look like that at hatch but i'd never seen one before him...
thanks for clarifying. when i was doing my research i was given some info that led me down an odd path:
"the Cream Legbar breed originally used the B gene from Barred Plymouth Rocks but later incorporated the cb gene through crosses with Araucanas. However, if a chicken has both B and cb, the B...
We are almost moved up to the homestead where I'll have full control over my flock and my breeding pens. I'm really excited for my breeding plans this year.
One of my long-term projects is an auto-sex zombie. I'm building from scratch using my current flock: Paint Ameraucana, Cream Legbar...
i don't know as much about lemon either. i think what you are talking about with the buff and lav is porcelain, which is basically the red/pink hue of lavender instead of the blue/grey hue.
i found another post that might be helpful for you...
i love that we're working on basically the same thing just different sizes haha.
i found this post on facebook from a lady that seems insanely knowledgable about chicken colors...
