    What colour is my Australian Araucana?

    Hi I have looked up the Australian Araucana colours and found a photo of a rooster that looks a lot like mine (photo below) it says Grey standard male, but that doesn’t seem right? Can anyone tell me what colour pattern this is?

    Will this cross produce a good egg laying Easter egger?

    The reason I am looking at using Hy-Lines or some other commercial egg layer is because they are all but guaranteed to be good egg layers. I’d like to use a heritage breed like Plymouth rocks but I can be guaranteed of the stock. If I’m better off using heritage breeds I’m also happy to look...

    Will this cross produce a good egg laying Easter egger?

    I have a Black Araucana rooster and some brown commercial layers (isa brown). I am looking to get some Hy-lines and want to cross them with my Araucana rooster to get great egg laying Easter Eggers. Would the F1 offspring be good egg layers with green eggs? I have hatched about 20 chicks from...

    Is my Araucana an Araucana?

    That’s a good resource. Thank you for the share. I’ll have to remember to post that I’m in Australia for future questions.

    This is a rooster though? All photos I found online the roosters had a bit of a tail?

    Is my Araucana an Araucana?

    Hi everyone, I’m wondering if my rooster is an Araucana or a mix of something? He is supposed to be pure bred but he doesn’t have the tufts sticking out the sides. He does make a completely different sound to the other chooks

    3 Original breeds to create all the following;

    Ok that is interesting, if i can use silver laced Wyandotte and Barred rocks to create a black sex link I think I’d like to try that. At least I will be dealing with breeds I would love to keep and breed. If i try find some darker laying rocks and some lighter laying Wyandotte I should be able...

    3 Original breeds to create all the following;

    No, I would just like the ability to breed a commercial laying bird (sex linked, like a black star or cinnamon queen etc) for any colour egg to offer to people only interested in hardy egg layers that are 95% guaranteed to be hens. But at the same time be able to produce an assortment of egg...

    Breeding Advice

    100% respect varying opinions. I should have been a bit clearer, I have chickens for both egg and meat purposes. I used the additional roosters for the later. I won’t ever waste a life. I wasn’t setup for multiple chicken coops but now I know that bachelor coops are successful I will definitely...

    3 Original breeds to create all the following;

    Thank you for the detailed response! I’m starting to wonder if I’m better off to start with a Cuckoo Maran, an Araucana strain and a cream egg laying strain like an Australorp. That way I could breed a commercial laying sex link and I would still be able to produce a variety of coloured eggs? I...

    3 Original breeds to create all the following;

    Thank you for the response! So ideally, to pull of as many egg colour combinations between 3 breeds and to allow for a sex link combination - Cuckoo Maran (Dark brown layer), Araucana (Blue layer), White Leghorn (White layer) I could then use those 3 to achieve a variety of cross breeds and egg...

    Breeding Advice

    I think the White leghorn cross barred rock would allow for sex link offspring, meaning I could achieve it all with 3 breeds? I’m just not overly keen on Leghorns, though they are supposed to be great layers…. I would settle for a cream coloured/ light brown layer for crossing with a barred rock...

    Breeding Advice

    Thank you for the response! I know I can achieve most objectives with just 3 breeds but to have them all be dual purpose might be an issue. I’ve done some research and found if I had Barred Plymouth Rocks, Araucana and White Leghorns I can do different crosses to achieve Brown, Blue, White...

    Breeding Advice

    Thank you for the response. I have read cream legbars produce blue eggs also, i think it is quite difficult to procure pure bred birds where i am of any kind and i have no connections in the chicken communities so im starting from scratch.
