    Behaviors of a rescued rooster

If he wasn't around older hens who would thump him for being a hormonal idiot as a youngster, he might never learn to be a gentlerooster, even with enough hens for him to focus his attention on. The problem is, a roo will typically pick his favorite 3 or 4 hens and pay the most attention to them...

    Behaviors of a rescued rooster

I'm sure he's pretty lonely, and sees you and your boyfriend as his stand-in flock. Rehoming a roo is hard because most people don't want one. Plus, not knowing his history with other chickens, he could turn out to be aggressive toward other birds. A human friendly roo can make a good pet but...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

Thirsty Thursday, but wouldn't you rather wait until I get you fresh water? :sick Mmm, dirt and bedding and poop tea... Magrat has started molting in earnest. She's feeling shy, but she ate oats out of my hand with Esme and Sybil Of course Sybil will be the last to start. She's still...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

We have a lot of those. They drop branches and die and rot and fall over by the dozens every year in the woods around our property. At least they make for easy pickins for cavity nesting birds and other critters (the woodpeckers love them), and the branches they drop are great to put in the...

What's the temperature where you are???

It was around 35°F when I woke up, 6ish in the morning. Now going on 10am it's 28° with a feels like temp of 18°, and dropping. Wet, heavy snow last night, total of around 2 inches. More snow falling now... And we have guys working on replacing our windows despite the weather. I think this is day 4.

I was just taking the birch roots into account. Please don't plant MORE birches near your pool Bob! Unless you want to, I guess 😆

I wish I got to see any of Arizona other than the area I lived, when I was there. Lots of cool old towns and sights to see but I missed out on all of it!

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

I'd start by looking at trees or shrubs that are native to your area. Spruce and fir do well in birch forests. Birch and fir trees (specifically paper birch and douglas fir) actually have been found to exchange nutrients to the benefit of both species...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

Those little dolls are SO cute! Where did you get them? I think I need a million 😆 Tax Earlier when I opened the coop there was a Sybil egg, cracked and frozen solid, in the nest. It was 2°F at around 7am and I didn't come out until nearly 9, she usually lays her eggs anywhere from 6-8am...
