Official BYC Poll: What Factors Affect Your Chicken Feed Buying Decisions?

I have a local feed store close by, so I get fresh feed and they're actually a little less expensive than TSC. There is a TSC about to open in my town so I'm concerned that might be the death knell for my little local spot(I sure hope not though:fl)

    Coop size vs chicken math

Initially 4x6 is plenty big for your current chooks, assuming that they will have a run or be able to free range. Since your current chicks are so young you have the benefit of some time to upgrade if you so wish.

    Best Spill Free feeder

I don't, thought I had a pic on my phone but must have deleted it. I'll take a pic tomorrow and post it if you like. It sounds complex but when you see it it's a very simple idea.

    Best Spill Free feeder

I use a 7 lb plastic feeder and took a plastic bucket(it's a 32 lb sour cream bucket from a restaurant)and cut 1 1/4 inch holes all around about an inch above the top edge then cut a 6 1/2 inch hole in the bottom of the bucket. Flipped it upside down over feeder, the chooks have to put their...

    Beaker update

I have a cross beaked Ameracauna, very similar in severity to your chick and she's going on 2 yrs old now. She does fine, now she's not nearly as precise as my other chooks at eating(I'm always slightly amazed at the accuracy that chickens pick up the smallest morsels of food w/o ever missing)...

    Staples vs. screws and washers?

Glad to help and I hope the staples provide the security that you need and the results are to your liking:thumbsup

    Staples vs. screws and washers?

I used staples to attach the welded wire that I put on the coop I built and haven't had any trouble at all. Now if you want the "strongest" possible attachment I'm pretty sure screws and washers are the way to go but nothing short of a bear is going to breach wire that's stapled properly. And I...

Preppers were right! No toilet paper in the stores due to Coronavirus scare.

Our local Wal-Mart is out of TP, a few other stores in town have some though. We were almost out so I stopped at the Dollar General here to pick up some TP and I kid you not I saw several peeps with shopping carts FILLED with TP, Paper towels, and disinfectant wipes, etc. You would think we're...

Chicken clothes and boots (for you)

I have a pair of coveralls that I use this time of year when it's typically colder(Not that it's really TYPICALLY anything in TN) and an old pair of boots. In the warmer part of the yr I just throw on an old T shirt and shorts or jeans and make a go of it

The attack of the squirrels HELP!

Wowsa 100 lbs a wk?!?! Yeah you have to find some kind of solution that's too crazy. Do your chooks free range most of the time? I feel like we need a little more info on your coop/set-up to really be able to help.....

Anyone have their chickens "forget" how to use a nesting box?

Yup I'm going through the same thing, mine used to lay in the nesting boxes exclusively. Now I can't hardly get any of them to lay there. Now they lay in the corner of the coop right by the door so it's not really anymore inconvenient to collect them from there than from the nest boxes but I put...

    Watering cups, Spouts, Gravity bowls?

I use a 5 gal. bucket w/ hn's, paired with a 50 watt aquarium heater in the winter. While our temps on avg. I'm sure are quite different from NY it does get down into the single digits here on occasion and it's kept the waterers thawed without fail. The other key factor for me is I don't have...
