I was much more concerned about listening to the racket the baby makes when I put him down! We have weight gain issues and a ridiculous feeding schedule so he is a little attached for the moment , lol.
I ended up trading the 2 big guys to Gena for an EE cockrel to get rid of some of the barring...
Ugh. I have 2 roosters and 2 Cockrels to process but can't imagine doing it with a 7 week old baby. Hard to clean birds while baby wearing without getting him messy I bet!
I had an otter run into my sliding dooryesterday. Has anyone ever had issues with them and their chickens? I've seen them eat grebes and crabs, and am hoping I don't have to worry about them getting into my coop on top of the bear and coons, lol.
Sorry to hear about the neighbors dog. I had a similar occurrence with a pair of spaniels in California that took out 3 of my flock by knocking out a board in my 6'tall privacy fence. They never admitted that it was their dog, and I ended up reinforcing the wooden fence, and keeping the girls...
This is my first broken leg in the 6 years I've had a flock, so I'm not sure! Luckily it looks like a clean break with no complication (not compound and I didn't have to set it) and she is a young healthy pullet. I'm hopeful she will pull through, but will cull of she starts going down hill. For...
Well my broken leg chicken is still alive and kicking, and the crazy broody is still sitting even after we moved her nest. I THINK there was 7 under her yesterday when we tried to count. There is only one egg under her that isn't hers, so I'm hoping that hatches! Everything looks pretty BR ish...
Hopefully yours will do alright if it can bend now, maybe it slipped the tendon back in and is just sore? Mine wasn't thrilled with the sling, so she is splinted and sitting in a kennel. My SIL is a vet tech and said that chickens should be splinted, but allowed to bear weight to encourage...
Hiw is the baby? One of my 3 month Olds had a broken leg when I got home yesterday. I'm guessing my big rooster chased her into the fence... we got her splinted and isolated. She seems to be in okay spirits, and ate a little melon and scrambled egg. Will have to see how she does. On the up side...
Our sussex is a hoot. She kept flying out of the run so I had to bird net. She was chasing the ups man looking for treats, and getting into people's cars when they stopped by.
June 15th for me! Coming up fast, lol.
My husband just found where she has her nest... on a screen in the rafters. What a dummy! I guess we will have to do chick patrol and pull them down when they start hatching. At least she is found though :)
I noticed a bird missing when I got home earlier this week. I checked everywhere but the one. Corner of my coop that I couldn't get my preggo belly. After about 4 days of assuming she was owl bait she was in the run when I got home from my OB appointment! Woohoo, I HATE losing layers, lol.
