    Wild Turkey challenge

I have an Artisan Gold pair. I recently separated the tom in another pen about 20 yrds from the hen, concerned it might kill the new poult. Then, this guy showed up. He was back the next day packing a 6-gun and black hat, pacing the outside of the pen from sunrise to sunset.

    Broody Hen

Related question. Does the introduction of a rooster trigger broodiness? One of this year's batch of chicks turned out to be a Mr. Pullet. Living in NC, we're trying to decide how to handle the HB2 bathroom issue, but so far, none of the other pullets and hens have complained. I do have a 2 yr...

Blog by Mike the Chicken Vet

I ran across Mike's blog looking for some info tonight. Rather than start another thread about Mike the Chicken Vet, I thought I'd add an update. Interesting read on commercial approach to antibiotics, hormones and supplements.

    Bird Flu Crisis.

HEB in TX begins rationing eggs. Whataburger shortens its breakfast hours in TX due to egg shortage. Expect cake mixes, baked goods, ice cream to go up in price and/or see shortages.

Show us your nest boxes! Ingenous design post it here!

My older 1+ yr old girls roost where they're supposed to. Roost bars are about a foot higher than the nesting boxes. Some of the newer pullets (about 2.5 months old) have taken to roosting on the edge of the nesting boxes, instead of the roost bars. Does hanging cloth along the front of the...

    Bird Flu Crisis.

I tend to doubt anything offered at the extremes. I think commercial production is an extreme. I also think expecting 2 blades of grass a little silly. Living a balanced life, whether it's me or my livestock, is where I think the best results will be found. yes, I believe he introduced the...

    Bird Flu Crisis.

Although this FB article by Joe Salatin is more about pricing eggs in light of the Avian flu, he makes some interesting comments about the situation as a whole.

Good breed to mix with RIR?

Picked up 3 black sex-linked and 3 Wyandotte chicks last week. They're cute buggers. Planning the integration party. it'll be quite awhile, though, before that happens.
