By Bob, my old flock was 28 birds. Some Barred Rock, Comets, Americaunas, and the GJ.
The BR and Comets were great for egg production, I had more than I knew what to do with. But I liked the others best because they were different.
Well, this is my first JG hens. I used to have a JG rooster. He was very docile. I just liked his size and blueish tail feathers. I like unique birds. Large, Cool colors.
I just started up a new flock today!
Been out of the game a while.
Glad to be back!
So far I have 2 Jersey Giant pullets, 1 Rhode Island Red pullet, and two Apenzeller pullets.
I have had Jerseys and Reds before, 10 years ago, but Apenzellers are new to me.
Well, there's a big garage door in the front that will be open on warm days, and I will be installing a window in the back wall. It also has soffet vents.
I have a fan to mount outside of the coop in the rabbit area as well.
I haven't had chickens in several years, but have now been able to move back into the country. Started work on a new coop.
Decided to convert one half of this two car garage. Front half will be a rabbitry, back half coop. I am awaiting delivery of a Chicken Guard Extreme to put in the back wall...
Does anyone have experience with solar powered auto chicken doors? I like the idea but have concerns that maybe all the chickens won't make it in before it closes.
Or that a clouds roll in decreasing daylight and it closes before they get in and then they are stuck outside in a storm
How well...
Thanks all. I was able to find my old Photobucket and find those pics.
Here's the old coop in Wisconsin.
I now have 26 acres with a Blue Ridge Mountains view in Virginia. Have to get a new set up now.
