I was honestly shocked with how massive they are! I have two 10lb+ pekins and they look quite small next to him.
He was very happy to take a bath after what I'm assuming was a pretty stressful journey.
Is this a female or a male?
This is my first experience with a muscovy. I'm doing research currently but wondering if anyone who's more experienced with the breed can more accurately tell.
Long story short, my neighbors couldn't bring themselves to process the bird and offered it to me.
I...
I had some of the oil shipped to me overnight and only applied a tiny bit on her. So far, it's already hot and muggy out, and I haven't seen a single fly land on her, so I really appreciate the recommendation! I'll be diluting and spraying it around the coop as well.
If you do end up getting...
Thanks for the response!
The use of harsher chemicals has been an ongoing concern of mine but neem oil sounds like a great alternative. I've been using DE and around the coop but the effectiveness of it is lessened by just how much moisture ducks tend to get everywhere.
As for the can I've...
Apologies for the long post,
For context, two months ago my neighbor's dog dug underneath our fence and attacked my duck. From this, my hen sustained a leg injury that has left her with a permanent limp, but she is otherwise fine and not in pain.
Because of this injury, I've noticed that she...
Thanks for the response! It's just so confusing with all the morphs and life stages that factor in but size seems more likely. I have some reassurance now but I will keep an eye out for it.
I currently live in North Carolina in the Piedmont area. My house is pretty much in a suburban area except for a small forest a few blocks away.
I agree, I'd wish I'd gotten a better picture and if I see it again I'll try my best. I'll take a look at those hawks and be on the lookout.
I've...
I live in North Carolina around the Piedmont area, but my house is pretty much in the suburbs. No nearby lakes, ponds, or waterways.
As for picture quality, I'd wish I'd got better ones but it was on someone else's property and it flew away upon getting closer. I'd say it was medium sized like...
Of course! I take a ton or precaution especially whenever free range.
I was wondering specifically for red shouldered hawks since they're relatively small and they're the ones I'm sure are around my house. The one in the picture is few blocks aways from me.
I don't worry at all for my pekins...
Apologies for the bad pictures, I stopped in front a neighbor's house and took them as fast as I could without looking like a crazy person.
Generally, I never really get the chance to see hawks upclose so I really can't tell the difference unless I actually hear them.
We do have a pair of red...
Woke up this morning and my duck's entire eye was swollen shut.
I immediately separated him and cleaned his eye with some warm water. He seems pretty lethargic and his friends don't want to be around him.
I gave him some water mixed with Vetrx for precautionary measures in case it's...
Recently, I went to my town's local duck pond to feed them and I noticed several domestic breeds there. Rouens, pekins, and runners, all ducks that can't exactly fly like wild mallards. They were very tame and you could basically pet them.
So I was wondering, does the city place them there or...
