I don't know what I would do with one that big. The one yesterday was a little guy still around 2 feet long. After my husband got home last night he proceeded to put the .22 by the door with rat shot in it.

Ended Contest #8 Funniest Chicken Picture Contest - 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong

Chicory (she's 10 weeks old today) decided she had enough of me taking her picture for the day and hid her head under her wing. As soon as I put the phone down she uncovered her head.

I don't know that animal control would come out for that. It's hard to get them to come out for anything! But, break a city code and Code Compliance will be here in a heartbeat.

Not rural. We are actually in a very urban area. Last year we had one snake and a few scorpions. I have 2 large dogs that tend to keep things like that away. I'm hoping this is a one off. But, just in case I want to be prepared.

Help! I have a rattlesnake that has decided that the bottom of my chicken coop (the run area) will be his new home. I've moved him and put him back over the wall (it's 5 feet tall). My daughter went out this morning to let the ramp down and it was back. She came running in screaming about a...

7 week old Barred Rock picking at her feathers

Thanks! I was wondering if she's not getting enough food. We're offering medicated starter feed and a vitamin crumble with it. She only gets a treat in the evening (a hand full of oats) to coax her to bed. We dont have the room for another one her age. If the others weren't so little I'd let...

7 week old Barred Rock picking at her feathers

We have a 8 week old barred rock hen. She's outside in a coop by herself her brooder mates turned out to be roosters (we can't have them). Today during my daily time with her(free ranging in the garden) I noticed she kept pulling at her feathers. At first I thought she was grooming herself. But...

I'm in the Far East. Look on Craiglist there are several people selling chicks and hens. We got our first batch from Gentleman off of Alameda. We got 3(2 week old Barred Rocks),2 turned out to be roosters. The Tractor Supply (on Alameda) has chicks right now(they did Saturday). I'm not sure...

The USDA has website about importing and exporting animals etc. Google customs information for exportation out of the US and it should come up. There will also be people that you can speak with. There are tons of forms to fill out and sometimes costly payments to be made. Honestly it's a lot of...

    Hens or Roosters?

Thanks for the info! We took them back to the gentleman we got them from and sure enough all but one was a rooster. So, we moved our hen to the outside coop(with a heat lamp inside) and got 6 baby chicks (all pullets) from our local Tractor Supply.

    Hens or Roosters?

4 weeks ago we got 3 Barred Rock chicks from a local feed store. The gentleman we got them from told us we could bring back the Roosters. After doing some research I think we may a Rooster in the bunch but, I'm not positive. Anyone want to take a guess? These were taken earlier today as...
