What Mystery Breeds did I get? :)

The last one doesn't have much of a comb at all! It's barely there, thin, and looks single. I thought the rose comb bantams were blue, black or white, though? not his funky red!

What Mystery Breeds did I get? :)

Okay back in April we got 14 new birds, unfortunately we lost a few of them to Hawks. And while I knew what most of them were, I don't know what these remaining four are! I have a 5th, that's a Pioneer, I think, but I can't get a good shot of her, she's hanging out in a nest box today and says...

    Mystery Chicks!

Some better shots 2 photos each of 3 different birds! Bird C is scraggly looking XD and has FIVE toes! D'aw/ Top photo the feathers are chocolate brownish. Bird A is more blackish.

    Mystery Chicks!

I'm so excited to see if they turn out to be as predicted! :) They should all be pullets, hopefully, but we'll see soon! Again i'll try to get some better shots and make a better posting. If that one is an Egyptian Fayoumi or Silver Campine I'll be kind of excited because they're very pretty...

    Mystery Chicks!

Ooh cool! I'll try to get some better photos just in case. I realized they weren't too great. Went to take more and found a young robin hanging out so I left them all be for now. I'll aim for some better photos when I go to put them in tonight. Now I'm questioning all my chickens (except for the...

    Mystery Chicks!

So this year the hatchery that sent the birds to our local store mixed up and sent them wrong ones (but they couldn't figure out which breeds got sent) and we ended up with something like 5 or 6 unknown surprise breeds! I know i should wait until they've got all their feathers in to post but I'm...

Thanks guys for the welcome! Today is a day of new ideas! Getting more supplies to build new roostbars for the girls. Found the two picked on hens sleeping in the nest boxes >.< (well we do have 10 boxes)

Thank you. I really do just want to be a good chicken parent lol. Going to try to see who is instigating and go from there! And we do give them the shells crushed and baked. But with them laying :/ the woods we were short on eggs !! Sneaky hens :)

Going to try some of these! The oldest are only two, so I'm hesitant to cull. But I'm going to try some of these and build out next year to give them more space. I feel bad for the poor dears! :( yeah in spring and summer we do let them free range, as well as provide feed. It's been helping...

Ok. I'll try to see if I can build out in spring. We just put in a new fuel tank so I'm broke and can't build now. They have about a body height plus between bars so no one's too close that way. But I'll try to build some more bars at the same height. When I go in at night ive never seen...

Poor dears, ugh! I feel awful. Their coop isn't huge, ten by seven ish. The run is free range, with three acres they roam on normally. I have four waterers out and three feed ones. I am thinking of building a secondary coop off the side of the regular one. Its a converted tack room off an old...

Oddly enough it's the australorps that are giving me the issues! We have golden Wyandotte (well one now), plymouth barred rocks, silkies, easter eggers and the australorps. We've had three from them. We had one barred but it was when I ran out of calcium and all three of my feed stores didn't...

    Oh Hai another Newcomer

I found eleven eggs in a crate the newest hens had been raised in before being intro'd to the flock. Crazy birds are crazy! Next year we're enclosing their entire run in. Too many got snagged by fox this year >.< Interesting checklist on prolapses - I'm about ready to head desk, fourth hen this...

    Oh Hai another Newcomer

That's good because despite having them for two years I'm still utterly clueless on them! Ha! Like how to prevent prolapses (we've lost three this year because we didn't catch them in time) or how not to bash my head into a wall when they decided to lay eggs all over my woods instead of the...
