I thought for sure I would know by now! Haha. If I went by those 2 things, I would lean toward cockerel absolutely. Newt is a bit meatier, with the noticeable difference in comb and wattles. Our Campines all have the same hatch date of 8/28, so we should be seeing eggs soon-ish!
I held this...
Here's a picture of Newt (far left) with his/her sisters. You can see there is a distinct difference in the other Campines. (The silvers are Egyptian Fayoumis.)
Right! I was actually surprised because all the other girls really have little comb and wattles to speak of, and most pictures I've now seen of Campines their age are further progressed. Minus Newt, obviously. S/he wasn't as pronounced as other young cockerel pictures I've seen but has always...
You're right...Comparison pics would make it easier. This is really the only one I got when those were taken - Newt is the one running to me but you can see some ladies at the bucket. For 4 months I have suspected something was different about this bird...it doesn't look like it's sisters but...
I have looked at countless Campine threads and I have seen some boys that looked similar to Newt at this age, so I haven't been able to convince myself 100% ...it's annoying (I'm annoying myself).
I think I posted in this thread before about this guy.
Need a fresh opinion on my 20 ish week old Golden Campine. I still don't know! I feel as though everyone will say pullet but something is different about Newt...largest Campine, still has the biggest and reddest comb and waddles, sounds a...
20 week update...
Guys...I still don't know! I feel as though everyone will say pullet but something is different about Newt...largest Campine, still has the biggest and reddest comb and waddles, sounds a bit different(?) Also, his/her wings are gold tipped. The others, not so much. Our coop is...
Its name is Newt and (if you happened to see in the Chicken Breeds forum) I have thought boy since 5 weeks! The popular opinion is pullet (?!) but I still have the nagging feeling we are looking at a cockerel.
Last matter on the agenda:
My 10 year old is getting involved with our 4h fair. For Christmas, we are allowing her to have her own mini flock of bantams (maybe 4 - it was on the plan anyway, so our bantam roo had some ladies). Does anyone local hatch them or sell eggs? Where can I get started?
