Thanks, sounds good. I can't really tell if there is an open wound because her feathers are in the way and I really dont want to poke at it too much if it is injured. I'll make sure to keep that in mind though, I have decided to not wrap her, especially because it is kind of scary and exhausting...
Thank you, I'll make sure to do that then. I figured it might be better to just leave her to heal on her own, just didn't want my negligents to be the cause of an infection.
Again, thank you so much, I really appreciate it!
We're not certain - I'm pretty sure that her wing got caught on something and the twisted it around, but that doesn't explain the feathers. It was strange as we check on them *very* often and this just happened within an hour.
Okay, I keep cleaning with peroxide - I'll switch to chlorhexidine...
Got it. I'll make sure to keep the brooder very clean. We got the eggs shipped so none were very dirty and none of them exploded so I'm guessing if it wasn't something to do with her lungs then it was something that happened in the brooder after. Thanks for letting me know, I'll keep that in mind!
I have this photo, which is from after we got some Neosporin on it so it looks wet. I can attach a few more if I can get any where you can actually see the wing base.
There is not bone sticking out, and I think (can't tell from the way her skin and feathers are situated) the only blood came from...
We check on our little brooder every 30 minutes ish, and yesterday we found that a chick was holding her wing strangely and her feathers had been pulled out or twisted in a few spots. We immediately took her out of the brooder and held her to make sure she didn't get picked on, but I'm not sure...
Thank you so much, we tried out best to give her water with electrolites and probiotics but sadly she didn't make it. It started to look like her lungs were injured or malformed. She drank fine, we gave her the littlest drops at a time (about 15 times) but I dont think she could breathe very...
So I recently hatched 8 adorable quail chicks, and they are all fine until I got back from an hour long shopping trip yesterday and one of them (the most lively and curious) seemed to be struggling to breath. She kept yawning and stretching her neck out, as well as shaking her head violently as...
Hey all!
I've had chickens all my life (literally, first batch of chicks at about 1), but recently we started raising quail which is a new thing entirely!
At this moment I have 8 lovely chickens, and 8 adorable quail chicks.
I have a mix of Sussex, Easter Egger, and a few unknowns. The quail are...
