Rereading for probably the third (fourth?) time. I sent a friend here, too. I forgot to tell her to read the whole thread. Nardole taught me what roosters are for (in addition to that other thing!)
Best of luck! Can you post a photo of your coop, or dimensions? Is i t something that will break down easily, or be moved easily?
I'm also interested in the automatic door. Thanks! Where in VT are you? You can PM me.
Cap, those are adorable!
I'm getting two 3-week-olds tomorrow, a Barred Rock and a Speckled Sussex. Our two remaining are Blackbird (Black Australorp, queen of the pecking order) and Buffy (Orpington). I like them to be different so I can tell them apart, and we are not eager to get one who...
Ron, this is awful to hear! I'm so sorry!
And about that dentist - he or she should be paying for the work that is now needed due to previous negligence. That is appalling!
Hi everybody - I dropped in because I'm reading about how to integrate new chickens into the flock. Well, "flock" isn't the word, because I only have two left. A bear got my larger Buff Orpington months ago (and we have triple-reinforced the coop). Then yesterday, something (likely a coyote -...
Welcome, Grammapat4! There's a lot of inspirational chicken talk on this site - be forewarned! You might end up with new chicks, and soon!
Nice to have you here.
The issues with prefab coops are well-documented, and so, so many members here bemoan the money they wasted when the whole thing needed replacement in a matter of weeks or months.
A better alternative would be to (1) read up a LOT on what you need in a coop, (2) find a local builder who builds...
If you put the whole thing inside a large dog kennel (your 4 chickens will need an absolute minimum of 10 sq ft per bird in the run, and that really is a minimum - as soon as I built mine I could see that 18 sq ft per bird was pretty cramped), it would be wise to fashion a pitched roof, so that...
Please, give it to us! We are having a heat wave (80s daily) and no rain. Which began moments after I put a million seeds into the ground in the gardens! DH complains daily that I will run the well dry with watering.
Hi, Old Folks! I'm stopping in and saying hello. Sorry I've been away so...
Oh yes. This year I can ski at both Killington and Okemo, and they make snow all the time, but fresh, real snow is the best. I had a chance to ski at Bolton Valley - wow, these mountains are high!
We are in the cold tonight. It's -6 now but supposed to get colder. The wood stove is...
Well, although I haven't disappeared completely, I have certainly been scarce (as hen's teeth?). I blame it on ski season, as you seem to have guessed. I take care of my chickens, but my focus is really on skiing.
I've gotten much better this year! I'm actually skiing at a speed that...
