Looking For Run Design Using Cinderblocks as a Base

I guess what I am looking for is sorta what you did but for the run area. I saw a coop build last year that did that for the fenced run area and then laid some more flat on top of that. Then I think they laid their 2x4's on top of that. But I don't think they buried they're wire thinking that...

Looking For Run Design Using Cinderblocks as a Base

About a year ago I saw a coop design using cinderblocks buried in the ground as a barrier and a base for the run for a coop. I have searched and cannot find those pics now. Does anyone know who or where I can find these. I have LOTS of old 1/2 blocks, which is what I thought they used, stacked...

    Agriculture dept... Mail with threat

I think if I were you, I would check a little deeper into this. I know people here where I live with 25 acres that are zoned "agricultural". They own horses and are not making 1 dime off their land. bUt different states have different laws. It makes a difference on property tax in a BIG way...

Got Our First 2 Eggs Yesterday!!!!!! WOOHOO!!!!!!!

Went out to check on the chickies after work yesterday and someone left me a gift in the corner of the coop!!!! Then today there was another. Nice shell, very light brown. Not sure which girl is laying but I am pretty sure it's our Splash Silkie as she is the oldest and closest to laying age...

What are you adding to your flock this year?

Quote: Oh, they're darling. I bought Mille Fluer bantam cochin eggs from BYC member, Fattie. If you're going to hatch eggs, she's a great seller....Her adult birds are beautiful. I bought splash as well. She sent me a dozen, plus 4 extras, and they were perfectly packaged. I ended up with...

If you are going to be keeping chickens long term. I would look into some kind of solar setup. I have heard and seen some that work very well.

I'm so tired of dog problems!!!

Quote: I was thinking the same thing. I would think a bullet would be much more cruel. I don't really want to see anyone's dog shot and killed and that might send the right message. Especially if you have already tried to talk to the people that own the dog.

    Not on roost at night

I have 5 Silkies and 2 younger Cochin Bantams and NONE of them sleep on the roost!! I made them a nice roost and ramp to get to the top and only 2 will use the lower roost and that is usualy in the DAYTIME!! Silly chickens. It could also be the fact that it's been in the high 20's low 30's in...

Could someone PLEASE tell me the difference between straw and hay??

I have heard of and seen "coastal hay" in Forida. Disney World uses a TON of it. What you probably had was Timothy hay. Hay is used for feed and straw is used for bedding. Where are you buying your hay at? Because for $12.00 a bale I will deliver you some of the prettiest hay in the country...

would it be cruel to have a pen of roosters and a pen of hens?

I have also read on this site that the whole 8-10 number for hens was for COMMERCIAL breeders, not necessarilly backyard flocks. At least that's what I have read. It could be wrong, but I do know people that have 3-4 and a Roo and they are fine.

would it be cruel to have a pen of roosters and a pen of hens?

Your ratio is better than mine. I have 3 Roo's and 4 girls. 3 Silkie Roo's. 2 Silkie girls and 2 Bantam Cohin girls. So far they are all getting along fine with only the occasional dust up. But I have also been told that Silkie Roo's are more tolerable of each other than some of the other breed...

Snow and wind tonight. What to do ?

They are predicting 1-2 inches of snow and winds 10-20mph with gusts to 40mph. Since this is our first winter with chickens, do I shut the doors for ventilation for the night until the wind and snow is done? I am concerned with the wind that it will blow into the coop and on the chickies. We...
