Where in NY ? Big differences in temperature between upstate and down state
I'm in the Albany area and it has been unseasonably cold lately. My one year old birds don't care but I have some 2 week old Black Austorlorp chicks in the garage.
Nights can still get cold in April around here...
I will be increasing my flock size this spring and am considering Red Sex Links
My current flock consists of Buff Orpingtons, Rhode Island Reds and Silver Laced Wyandottes which are all cold tolerant
I live in upstate NY where the winters can get long and cold
I have read that the Red Sex...
Thanks....figured it would be something simple like that
Small flock of 12 producing well thru the winter
adding six chicks next month....black austorlops
My girls have a habit of "dragging" both sides of the beak on our wooden deck
They angle their head to one side and then the other while pulling back and dragging the sides of their beaks on the wood
This happen to anyone else ?
why do they do it?
Tom
Coop is done... 8 foot x 7 foot
12' x 24' existing dog pen re-purposed for chicken run
6 silver laced Wyandottes, 3 Buff Orpingtons and 3 Rhode Island Reds to start
Hinged window covers for the front and back screens
The girls seem to like their new home

Also, make the roosts removable/replacable. They can get dirty over time and being able to remove them for cleaning or reversing them to put the clean side up, is a nice thing.

never thought of that...easy to do
good...
I live in upstate New York with cold winters
Currently building a coop to house my dozen chicks when they mature..Silver Laced Wyandotte and Buff Orpington
Read some articles on this forum but want to confirm some info. before I complete the interior of the coop
Roosts should be higher...
