Hello everyone, I apologize if this post comes off as a bit of a vent, but basically I have been seeing recurring instances of my hens laying soft shelled eggs, or in one hen’s case, just the membrane with egg white (sometimes with the yolk.)
Initially I was only feeding them the layer feed...
I'm hoping the vet will have some answers tomorrow, and praying that it's something curable. I think the redness has come and gone, but I thought it was due to the other hens bullying her.
Thanks for responding though! I appreciate the concern for my sweet girl 💕
Hi friends, I could use some thoughts if anyone has any. I detail it all down below, but aside from her breathing heavy sometimes and her swollen abdomen, I was doing some of my own research and I do wonder if one of her air sacs could be inflamed, as she has a lump on one side of her underside...
Thank you (and sorry for the late reply) I actually saved all of their first eggs (shells), and I buried her with hers. It's been hard watching the small flock continue without one, it feels like I'm always missing one still
On Saturday April 27th, my dear hen Shirley passed away over night in my room. I tried everything I could to help her, and made a few posts here in search of answers. I learned a lot of things and glad people were willing to help or suggest ideas. She had her ups and downs, I took her to the vet...
Hi, it's me again. This is a follow-up from my last thread about my hen acting off. (Link here.) Do let me know if there's a better way to update people! I don't think I can edit the post anymore
Good news and bad news, good is that I tried Miconazole and it really helped. Cleared her up for...
I'm so sorry your hen passed away. Just know you did everything you could. She was clearly well loved, and she knew that.
I've learned a few things reading through this thread. I recently gave one of my hens one calcium pill a day for about 5 days, because I noticed she was laying soft eggs. I...
I'm very relieved to hear your hen is doing better! I had a hen pass from being egg bound a few months ago – and ever since I've been worried about the same thing happening to my other hens. A good nights rest should do her well after this stressful day. You're doing great!
Update: I kept her inside last night, and her crop was completely empty this morning. She's energetic again now, but I'm sure after a few hours of being outside she'll be back to being mopey. She did spit up a little liquid yesterday though, but I can't confirm the colour cause it was on a black...
I do wonder if there's a recurring yeast in there that acts up perhaps. I'm going to look into getting probiotics from a not-vet source since they take a while to get back to me here. There's basically one farm vet to serve everyone where I live so they can be quite busy
As far as I know our local chicken store doesn't have probiotics, but I could be mistaken. I'll ask on a local FB group to check since they would be closed on the weekend. I have her inside again with me tonight, and I've noticed after she eats she makes a lot of gurgling sounds for a while...
Hello everyone, I have a weird case with my hen Shirley, she has been acting very strange and causing me worry. I suspect sour crop but honestly I'm not sure. I also question if she's just cold. I tried to be as precise as I could, and thank anyone in advance for reading.
1) What type of bird...
