My first incubator chicks have been hatching over the last 24 hours. I've noticed that the temp won't go back up since I opened the door to check them. I have other eggs in the incubator not due for a week and my temp has been down around 90 for most of the day. I can't get it up over the 90...
Hi everyone, I got up thismorning and there were 5, now there are 6. You are right, the oldest is starting to move about more. One has just hatched and its navel hasn't closed up properly. It is spotting blood. Not alot, its more weeping a little blood. What do I do here??
Hey there
My first incubator chick has just hatched. Is it normal for them not to be able to stand straight away. It seems to be able to put pressure on one foot but not the other. The other keeps turning under. It trys to get up and then just lays down and closes its eyes. It is...
My chicky died. I found her thismorning when I got up to check on her. So sad, its my first one. :hitNow trying to merge the other chick that I put with her for company, back with her mother. Fingers XXX on that one.
I don't have a response, just thought I would jump on the band wagon as I am in a similar situation. Mama hatched 3 days ago, I had her separated while she was sitting on the eggs. She seems to be itching to get out and join everybody but I wasn't sure whether to move her into the big pen with...
My broody hen hatched her one and only chick 3 days ago, that night I added 6 day old chicks that I received by courier same day. She took them fine but the next day started pecking at one of the chicks, a tiny little thing. As the morning progressed she seem to get more aggresive towards it...
Thanks for your stories and suggestions everyone. Mine will be 3 weeks apart, I will receive fertile eggs for the 2nd broody the same day the first broody hatch. I took over my kids cubby house for the first broody as I had no where else to seperate her to and that has been where she has...
I have heard that you should be careful having two hens together, both with chicks as one may kill the other's chicks but what about a broody sitting on eggs housed with a Hen with newly hatched chicks? Will the broody bother the chicks? I have a housing situation due to the timing of my new...
Yes I know what you mean. My DH is in the process of building me a bigger pen but in the meantime they are all cramped into a tiny pen with only two nesting boxes. Those that lay always go for the same one and they even fight for sleeping rights rather than roosting.

Day 3
Yes it is VERY exciting!! The eggs arrived today. I decided not to put them under her tonight, even though I am dying to. I put her out for a poop thisafternoon while I was tending the others and after her loopy lap of the yard she headed straight for her old pen. She ate and ate...
You sound just like me. I am doing the same thing and asked all the same questions over the last week. My eggs arrive tomorrow. one thing I was told was to remove her to a separate place right away, which I have done and glad so as she is taking a bit to get used to a new nest.
I'm probably...
