I teach 4th grade at a small private Christian school. I have always adored animals, and now my husband and I appear to be running a small zoo in our home. We have a dog (Scout), corn snake (Paprika), rabbit (Poppy), parakeets (Twinkie and Pearl, they are my nephews'), 2 horses (Radar and Zip), and our chickens, which we became more attached to than we ever thought possible. We had our original flock of 8 that we lost to neighbors dogs, but have hatched out a few of their babies.

We have adopted two older hens to keep our sole survivor, Dottie, company.

"Swayze" - 11 year old (I'm told!) Olive egger
"Forks" - unknown age, I believe Ameraucana. she's friendly but doesn't get too close. Name is an inside joke because she reminds us of Dumbledore's phoenix, "Fawkes"; my mom listened to all the books on tape, and due to the accent of the reader she thought that Dumbledore's phoenix was named "Forks" for years until we corrected her.
