24 weeks old, no eggs, no squatting yet that I've observed either...why?

That would be just fine with me, as we sell the extra we don't eat to pay for feed ;)

24 weeks old, no eggs, no squatting yet that I've observed either...why?

Three pullet eggs found in the coop when I cleaned it out today (NOT in the nest boxes with the fancy ceramic egg)...:th:celebrate

24 weeks old, no eggs, no squatting yet that I've observed either...why?

So...have 2 Silver-laced Wyandottes, 1 New Hampshire Red, and 14 Barred Rock hens that were hatched June 8. Been feeding them oyster shell on the side (have a NHR roo too) and Purina Flock Raiser 20% protein. Added supplemental light to their coop on timer set for 15 hours a day light (turns on...

What do you do when an old hen is just not integrating well with a new flock?

What a great, informative post! Thank you! That injury part might have been the two wyandottes that were killed. It was super hot, they had ventilation but they might have overheated. I will try this :) I'm worried about the snow though...

What do you do when an old hen is just not integrating well with a new flock?

Rehoming older chicken. Observed for an hour and noticed at least four pecking at tail feathers :barnie :he Will they stop plucking each other's tail feathers when she leaves? She's isolated now, but really trying to prevent more chicken murders

What do you do when an old hen is just not integrating well with a new flock?

This one unfortunately happens to be my eight year old daughter's favorite chicken to boot, but she's bullying the others and possibly feather-picking their tail feathers. Two got to blood and we sprayed Blue Kote on everyone who had bare spots on their butts by their tails, and it was about...

20.5 week old Barred Rocks and Silver-laced Wyandottes and one New Hampshire Red not laying?

I'm sure this sounds impatient, but I am wondering...this flock has had some behavior issues with feather-picking (due to boredom I think, and the chickens are, well, too chicken to go out in the snow which puts 19 birds into a 96 sq foot shed/coop. Door open all day, til we can cut out a little...

    When to integrate flocks?

Bbbbbuuuuuttttt....I care? On a more practical note, it's not "winter worthy" for an area that gets quite a bit of snow ;) It needs to be fortified better to withstand our 50 psf snow load. It'll work til the snow flies, and by then we hope to have something better set up for them. Good ideas...

    When to integrate flocks?

Unfortunately, we're building our house on our 5 acres (meaning there's still stray nails and such on the ground and we already lost one bird to two screws they swallowed (how they got down 2 1/2" long screws is a mystery to us all) and don't want to lose more the same way) and we don't have a...

    When to integrate flocks?

I have 14 barred rock pullets, 3 silver-laced wyandotte pullets (had six sadly one went missing and two died not sure if it was from heat or BR pullets they do seem to bully the SLW and the two dead ones had definitely been pecked at and were bloody-I got really sick and hubby had forgotten to...

At what age should my chicks and hens integrate?

Hello all! When can I integrate hens and chicks? I have 9 two year old RIRs and 19 nine-week old chicks (barred rock, silver-laced wyandotte, and two new hampshire red cockerels). We are having issues trying to take care of the two separate flocks, since I got thrown from a horse last week...

    Mice in chicken coop- help?

Ok. Will their feed be all right outside? Should it be in the coop at least in winter? We get a lot of snow here. That lock outside trap inside idea could work. I'm also going to have hubby take a box knife and cut the vinyl to be flush with the floor and remove the lip under it where they're...

    Mice in chicken coop- help?

The mice are INSIDE the coop, not outside...don't think outside traps will do any good...

    Mice in chicken coop- help?

Won't the chickens hurt themselves on the traps? The mice got in through the door when it's open during the day, I'm sure of it. They're nesting underneath the vinyl flooring where it has a lip by the sole plate in the shed. The darn things chewed holes to get into it from above, not below.

    Mice in chicken coop- help?

Hello all! Well, dang it! I'm dealing with mice in the chicken coop! It's a 12x8 lofted barn shed, and since we don't have a chicken door cut in it (it's not going to be a permanent coop- we're working on a new one soon) the big door is open during the day. Problem is, we have mice droppings...
