I’m living in South Carolina now and need some suggestions on which breeds are best for heat tolerance. I had great success with my flock in NY but the weather is definitely different here especially in Summer. I love Buff Orpingtons and Ameracaunas, could I have these here?
My EEs are not very friendly but I associate that with how they were raised before I got them, because the Barred Rock that was raised with them is the same way. My bigger problem with the is that they are just shy of 2 years old and have completely stopped laying. We haven't had a blue egg in 2...
What does that mean? I've never seen this before.
Never mind I googled it. I wish I could figure out which girl laid it but that's almost impossible.
I guess time will have to tell me.
I have to share this "egg" we recently got from one of our girls. It came from either a Barred Rock or a Red Sex Link. This is not a first egg. One of our Barred Rocks is over 4 years old and the other is 2 years old. The Reds are 3'years old. Anyone ever see this before?
Thanks all, I will tell my husband the responses and next time we are at TSC will pick up the PDZ again.
I cannot wait until the one they are building about 6 miles away is done!
Is there any reason why we shouldn't be using kitty litter instead of PDZ? My husband bought non-clumping Paws and Claws kitty litter at TSC and we are using that. Anyone had any trouble with this?
We feed 2x a day with warm oatmeal mixture that may contain corn, or other cooked vegetables and leftovers. We have feed pellets also available all day in the coop.
We are also lucky enough to have a Hannaford grocery store here that gives us their day old fruits and vegetables. We signed up...
We have had success with the broody breaker but our last BO was not giving in. After 5 days in the "chicken jail" she was still puffing up and being broody. So I suggested that we try the cold water treatment, I didn't want her to be isolated for too long, we'll we dunked her up to her wings...
Nono- that was the same thing we had to do. Our dirt is mostly clay and with all the rain we had it just was smelling awful. As soon as we raked it all out and put sand in ( about 4 inches deep) it got so much better and is easier to rake out.
Only 9 so far today. My girls had been doing so well...14/17. But we have another broody and she is keeping the others out of the box. At least she's not as mean as the last one.....yet. Into the broody breaker she goes.
I would swear that the jack Russell across the street is the dumbest one ever! But then again his owners made her that way. They ruin more dogs!
I think we finally got the rats under control using several methods at once...the p.o.p. and sugar was never touched unfortunately, so we moved on to...
