I have a similar toe issue with one of my hens. The back toenail is broken upward, but very attached. No blood, but she's walking with a limp. I have her in a crate now separated from everyone else.
Is there anything wrong with waiting it out?
I need some help. The new updates to this site is a little confusing. I'm hoping I'm not disrupting someones forum....
I'm pretty sure a raccoon got a hold of my chickens head through the chicken wire on their coop. She made it free, but her comb has been partly ripped off and torn on a good...
No I completely get it. I searched tonight, "Is it always this sad having chickens?"
I came home and had lost two!
I've had chickens over the last two in a half years. In the last 3 month's I've lost four! -and I've only ever had six total!
I am so sad. They're totally my buddies...
For me...
There's nothing cozy about sand in a nesting box. Its called a "nesting" box for a reason. I think it would be more kind and make more sense to not....I use wood shavings. Its 100% natural animal bedding, adds warmth and is dust free.
This is really helpful for me. I'm dealing with a similar situation. I caught the needle gauge, dose, and the depth to put it in, but what about the needle length?
Did you ever figure it out? I have the same thing going on with a chicken that is about 9 months old. She seems fine otherwise.....pine shavings just in the coop/nesting box. I have two others though and I have not seen them do it.
So how deep should the sand be? Should I not through scratch down in the run? I posted my dilemma earlier on in the thread that I have some mold in the run. It's covered but still gets moisture in it....right now it is just dirt but will be sand this weekend
I have nothing but dirt in the run right now and I'd like to do sand. I've started noticing signs of mold on the dirt. It is a covered run but moisture definitely gets in. Will I have the same moldy problem with sand?
