Two questions for those in Berks County...
I currently pay around $25 for a 100lb bag of 18% poultry pellets. I get around 900lbs at one time every 3-4 weeks and am satisfied with it. Due to the amount I go through, my issue is the picking up, hauling it, unloading it, and trying to store it...
I have read all the other post about swollen turkey heads and am not quite getting my question answered.
I hatched two MW turkey eggs. One of them developed a swollen head after a couple weeks, it died shortly after. The second turkey was fine for another couple weeks and then developed the...
I think it has 6 to 8 ports. Everyone ate, 90 hens and 8 turkeys, never had an issue. Because it was always full an available, they all ate at diferent times through out the day. While some birds were napping, drinking, laying eggs, others would be eating.
I also used an automated deer feeder to...
Just leave them and they will drink it. I have had over 200 400 chickens and turkeys over the last 3 years and they all have used them eventually. I even had 5 day old chicks using them. I've learned, if you don't fuss over your chickens they will do what you want them to do when they are...
I used a cheap wheeled trashcan from Walmart and added six ports around the whole thing. I filled it up with 500 pounds of feed and they were good to go for 2 weeks or so (90 hens, 8 turkeys). When they are young and I'm just putting them outside, I used a plastic storage tote with the same...
Nice experiment you have going.
Something that helped me with my incubators and my brooders...
I used Rainpoint plant waterers to keep my incubator reservoirs full. I used a Govee temp/humidity gauge inside the incubator. That uses and app, so I could set warning levels for temp and humidity...
All good points Ridgerunner, thank you!
I live in the woods and it has been extremely challenging to have any livestock. Just way too many predators that take the fun out of it. I was at my wits end yesterday.
I had about 40 X's out in their tractor and the next day I saw 2 dead inside and about 10 others with varying injuries. Some were small cuts and others were large 2-3 inch gashes totally through the skin exposing the meat. 2 also had their actual wing bones sticking out. When I discovered them...
Thank you all! Looks like I was thinking along the right lines then.
This thread may just have saved him...he was on my processing schedule for March 🍗 My other EE Colonel Sanders is getting to be an old man, so he can replace him.
I'm trying to figure out what breed this is. It was from one of those surprise rooster packages from a hatchery. The muff and beard is puzzling me. I have a white ameracuana rooster, but they look nothing alike. I was thinking maybe it's just a white EE, but really have no idea.
