    Duckling in brooder with chicks?

Thank you for the advice! I have two auxilliary thermometers in the incubator as I know mine is off. It's probably just a poor quality incubator. I purchased a Brinsea 56 Ovation, so hopefully that one works better for the next batch. It seems to be calibrated accurately. The area I live in is...

    Duckling in brooder with chicks?

I do use an auto turner. It seems to be a good distance from the heating element. I'll try misting them next time. Thank you.

    Duckling in brooder with chicks?

Thank you. I only put them in lockdown because when I candled them they had their beaks through into the air cell already. Should I not do that? Two of them were peeping.

    Duckling in brooder with chicks?

I incubated 6 duck eggs and only 1 hatched. My last batch didn't hatch at all. I have 8 chicks that are 1 week old. I tried to put the duckling in with them because it was lonely, but they keep pecking at his feet. Any suggestions? I don't want the duckling to be lonely, but I also don't want...

Newly hatched chick with fleshy protrusion

I've had about 3 or 4 chicks with similar issue from this batch of 16. I think maybe the peeping encouraged each to hatch a little early. They all seem to be doing fine as of right now. I'll keep an eye on them for infection and hope for the best! Thank you.

Newly hatched chick with fleshy protrusion

Okay, thank you for the information! It looks to be getting a lot smaller, so going to give it a chance for a little bit and see. Appreciate the response!

Newly hatched chick with fleshy protrusion

I am hatching my first eggs. They are all hatching between 12 and 24 hours before the full 21 day incubation period. Everyone has seemed fine so far- when the chicks are dried off I move them to the brooder. This guy just hatched about an hour ago and I notice it has a fleshy protrusion. I'm...

    Magpie Ducklings and feeding

Hi- I'm new to ducks, and have just acquired now 4-day-old magpie ducklings. The breeder I got them from just feeds chicken grower, but I've read that adding in rabbit pellets is a good thing for them. I have their water set up over a paint tray with a paint grid on top and this seems to keep...

LF advice for DIY run for up to 30 chickens

Hi chicky friends! My husband and I are on a limited budget and are looking for the best way to construct a run for our chicks that are just under 2 weeks old right now. We are in the process of converting our large shed into a coop (will use half for chickens, half for ducks). We plan on...

    Coop door help!

OMG thank you for all the helpful feedback! I too like peace of mind. The price though for the size with about 18 chicks, which I'll have by the end of the summer, may be a bit high. Thanks for the advice on the baby monitor too!
