    Soft Shelled Goose Egg

I think I know - she needs calcium. This is her 1st soft egg - - her partner has been on a clutch of her eggs for close to 25 days now. Just need to verify. Opinions?

Anyone use SAND in the run/coop

How much sand? How deep in the coop? Our coop is in a barn with a concrete floor. I have had it with straw &/or shavings!

How long before I intervene? turns into What Went Wrong?

Lucky, blessed, either way I was shocked! But I know I still need to get a good digital I can leave in there. Looking at 1 from Incubator Warehouse that has the Hygrometer too. Now we just have to find the $!

    Should I be Worried?

I would say to check it more often for movement. Use a kitchen timer.

How long before I intervene? turns into What Went Wrong?

Just for giggles, I just checked the "Little Giant" thermometer against the "Hova-Bator", my digital Weber & a cheap digital (the last 2 I use for BBQ). I used the Hova-Bator #1588 we just picked up used (for free!). From left to right... Weber: 99.9° Hova-Bater: 98° Cooper (cheap yellow one)...

How long before I intervene? turns into What Went Wrong?

Thank you Dragons4u. I presumed the temperature was correct. I know now that I need to invest in a better thermometer than the one that came with it. I was looking at one online that has a hygrometer in it as well. I hadn't thought about going to the extent you described, but that is probably a...

How long before I intervene? turns into What Went Wrong?

Yeah HEChicken, you are correct. I thought that was the case. So now - - - did I do anything wrong? Something that may have been prevented? Can anyone tell from the following pics what happened? Again, new to hatching so I don't know I can say anything authoritatively but it seemed to me the Air...

How long before I intervene? turns into What Went Wrong?

I am new to the Incubating & Hatching game. We bought the incubator from Tractor Supply a month ago & placed a bunch of eggs in for a test run on April 29th. On May 21st I saw the first pip, then on the 22nd it was like this. Nothing has happened since. I know now I should have taken the turner...

    Sounds woke me up...

Don't know where you live, but around here we have a LOT of coyote's. Forget the bb gun. Not enough range or power. Use something larger to protect your flock.

    Ideas on keeping predators out?

You just said what I have been thinking since I started reading this thread. But I say forget the 22, that will just piss off the bears. I would opt for the 12 ga. with 00. As for your initial perimeter alarm, try the remote driveway alarms. Depending on where you are, I think tractor supply or...
