Keeping My Chickens Safe but Stimulated?

Hi, sorry for the late reply, I have 5 chickens and they have ~38 square feet of run space and ~18 square feet of coop space.

Keeping My Chickens Safe but Stimulated?

Hello! Recently there has been a breakout of bird flu very close to where I live, and as you might know, bird flu pretty fatal for chickens and spreads through entire coops very easily. To keep my chickens safe, I was advised against taking them outside, where they might be exposed to bird flu...

    Black skin on Chicken?

Ok, thank you! It did not occur to me that she is around molting age and it could be that 😅

    Black skin on Chicken?

Hi, My ~16mo black sex link chicken developed dark slightly swollen skin around an area where her feathers were picked (the feather picking happened many months ago and she is beginning to grow them back on other parts). The other skin is also red and yellow, but I am hesitant to say it’s a...

    Molting or something else

In the second picture you can see some of the yellow skin “wrinkles” a little if you zoom in.

    Molting or something else

I just realized I didn’t post all the photos! Here are the ones previously described about the chickens missing neck feathers, I didn’t get a chance to take better photos, but this is what I meant to add when I posted this thread.

Chickens have red, swollen vent areas, but no parasites?

Yeah, we researched coop sizes before getting our chickens, and I’m so glad we did because our current coop supposedly fits 12, but it‘s perfect for the 6 pullets we planned on getting. Well…other than the roosting space.

MEDICATED WHAT THE HECK!!! is it GOOD or BAD

I concur, that’s what I did for my flock when they were chicks.

Chickens have red, swollen vent areas, but no parasites?

Yes I think they might not have enough roosting space: We bought a coop-building kit (had the most space for a good expense) which came with 2 square roosting bars, but we added in a round pole as an extra roosting bar in the coop when we realized they wouldn’t have enough space. When I checked...

Okay, thanks! Sorry, I didn’t realize I hadn’t posted the pictures.

    Molting or something else

Thank you, I did notice red vents as well but must have accidentally added it to a different post. The chickens with the red vents aren’t the same ones as the chickens with the missing feathers, but another person suggested it might be feather picking as well; I will definitely observe some more...

Chickens have red, swollen vent areas, but no parasites?

Thank you, I will check on them later tonight to check the situation on roosting space! I was hoping the skin was only red because of the weather, its been 20-30s recently—which is not an unusually cold temperature at all where I live, but perhaps for them it is…
