    What will i get?

I have a flock of chickens that consists of RIR, Barred Rock, Golden Sex Link, Leghorn, Australorp, and Easter Egger hens. My only Roo is a Giant Easter Egger. If eggs are hatched, would any of the offspring lay colored eggs? I would assume the Easter Egger's eggs would yield colored egg layers...

Advice on how commercial food to feed free range mixed flock.

I have 45 hens of various breeds free ranging on 2 acres of pasture and an acre of woods. They are very active in both the pasture and the woods, and keep my open compost turned frequently. Being they are always on the go, I free feed them and they all seem very healthy and yield an abundance of...

    Broodies moving around

The third box always has a hen in it when I collect the eggs from the other 9 boxes. (I have 6 over 6 Boxes) Should I just take all the eggs from boxes 2 and 4 being that there have been gaps in seating periods? Think they would still be viable?

    Broodies moving around

I have 2 Australorps that seem to have gone broody. They started out in the second and third nesting boxes and then I found them in the third and forth boxes. Rhode Island Reds.... (WHAT??!!)

Mine aren't mean, they just keep to themselves. My Barred Rocks were the first in my flock to show any intrest in me without food in my hand. But I didn't handle them while very young. It's hard to eat a pet when they stop laying!

Why are the Wild “Neighbors” Fussing???

I had an elderly gent tell me to always have black chickens mixed in your free range flock. Crows are a hawks worst nightmare and hawks can't tell the difference between a chicken and a crow. They leave the chickens alone. So far it's worked for me.

    Crowing attracting preditors.

I live in a coyote rich environment. Luckily, they have to cross a large field to get to the backyard where the birds stay. I hear them in the evening but haven't seen any yet. Lots of turkeys in those woods, maybe they are a distraction.

    Crowing attracting preditors.

Hello all, Uncle Vig here coming to you from north central Alabama. I ordered 48 hens to start my new flock not wanting the crowing of the roosters attracting preditors. Turns out that 2 of my easter eggers are cockerals and one is beginning to crow. But now that I have them, I don't really want...
