OK. Lots of questions. Let me give my opinion on my limited experience of 3 hatches.like you, I've read a lot of bad things about assisted hatches, but I have assisted with hatches with no problems. You just need to make sure to not be too eager. As long as you leave around 12 hours from...
I agree with lomine. They aren't affectionate. I'd recommend a cockatiel for that. My cockatiel is affectionate. Jap quails can be tamed fairly easily by hand feeding etc. I love keeping them and the eggs are great. Also very fun to breed. Negative side is that they are smelly (I wouldn't...
I use deep pine shaving. Works great . I use a rabbit waterer with a small tub under the outlet. Also recommend building a little tray outside with a gap for there head for feed. So they reach out and down to the feed. If they have access to it or water they make so so much mess. They are very...
Would love to see the finished product. Sounds amazing but I think there droppings might be too strong and kill plants underneath. Or just smother them as they poo A LOT. Would love to see it work though.
Sounds like a back problem. Only thing to do is cull it. Better than starving to death. Sad fact. I had a high number of deformities this hatch. My humidity was to high during incubation.
Hi. I use paper towels for the first few days. Cleaning it daily, cause man can they poo a lot. Then I change to sawdust. Pretty deep sawdust which I love them on for about a week before going on deeper sawdust pen if I have space or wire based grow pen if I don't.
So as long as the dont contract disease it's OK that they kill each other?? Plus who the heck is a scientist on here. Its backyard chickens, not professional scientists of poultry.

They may both be girls. Hems can occasionally loose the plot and become aggressive. The only solution to this is permanent isolation or the dinner plate. Sorry for the bad news. Certainly don't breed her.
Hi. Yeh you can't leave quail to free range like chickens as they can fly and are too stupid to come home at night. Even if by some miracle you trained them to return they would be too vulnerable to any predators due to there small size. Keeping with Chickens are not recommended due to disease...
Hi Mike. General minimum recommendation is a foot squared per bird. So I'd say 14 hens and 2roos should be fine. You can mix birds ounce they are at least 5 weeks and no more than 1 to 5 females and watching them closely after mixing. For any aggressive birds. You need to seperate the young...
