    Sick Hen? Mites? Pictures Attached

I haven't supplemented lately but do have oyster shells that I can put out now. I do crumble up egg shells from time to time and throw them in with the veggie scraps, but am probably not being consistent enough with it. I am getting 2 to 3 eggs a day from the 6 of laying age. I can't tell if the...

    Sick Hen? Mites? Pictures Attached

The spot on her beak could be a yellow chunk, no raised scales on any of their legs. I feed them organic layer crumbles by Scratch and Peck. The only treats they get are scraps from my garden or leftover veggies from our dinner. They were free ranging throughout the garden for about a week and...

    Sick Hen? Mites? Pictures Attached

Yes, thank you. She's in her own pen now. I moved her a few days ago. I had them all free-ranging during her injury. I now have them all cooped due to the excessive winds and possible need to evacuate. It will be easier to gather them all up and get them to safety if necessary.

    Sick Hen? Mites? Pictures Attached

I have a hen I purchased as a pullet a few months ago. She was one of four and was healthy until a few weeks ago. She picked up a serious limp a few weeks ago when we had heavy winds, but with careful watch has been favoring her bad leg less and less. She seemed to be fine finally, with only a...

What did you do in the garden today?

We are about to get nailed with cold, wet weather again here in Southern California as well. A few of my cucumber seeds have sprouted and almost all of my cantaloupe is up. I planned on a full weekend in the garden but nope, it seems other plans are in the works. Oh well, I will never complain...

What Is The Latest In Your Garden Today? New Post From The 2012 Post

Potatoes are supposed to be so easy yet I just can't get them to produce. How much do you water? I can get them to grow greens but they die back too quickly and I may get a handful of tiny potatoes (and I mean tiny). Not sure if I am overwatering, underwatering, or watering inconsistently as I...

Bush beans and pole beans question?

I just planted a bunch of scarlet runners and hope to see them take over part of this trellis I just added. Between that and the cucumbers and squash I can't wait to see these covered in full blooms in a few months! I am growing everything vertically this year, even my watermelons. Trying to...

What did you do in the garden today?

Oh my goodness! Definitely an indoor seed starting day for you at best! Yeah here in SoCal we were hit with a sheet of rain at 5am and we have been pounded ever since. These little guys love being out in the rain when everyone else is hiding inside.

    Ringworm treatment

Hands down my favorite treatment is a combination of Tea Tree oil mixed with fractionated coconut oil, and separately apply Aloe Vera. A few topical treatments of each, alternated, for about a week and it will be gone. Works on dogs, cats, humans..... You can finish once you see it is gone with...

What did you do in the garden today?

I had issues with the squirrels as well, then I got a Mini Schnauzer. lol They hate him, but I love him even more now that he chases them out of the yard all day. I am hoping this is the first year I get one of my nectarines instead of growing them for all the local critters. Netting hasn't...

What did you do in the garden today?

Marigolds are definitely a favorite of mine too. I also am lucky enough to have Nasturtium grow like a weed here and has been amazing at keeping hornworms away from my tomato plants. They either hate the smell, or it masks the smell of the tomato and they can't find it. Either way, nasturtium...

    Gardening Day!

My girls love when I work in the garden. They chirp and get so excited, they just KNOW that any minute I will be throwing them a worm or grub. My fruit and nut trees are all in bloom, figs are starting to show, sunflowers are waking up, and my first tulip has popped up to say Welcome Spring...

What did you do in the garden today?

Oh I love this time of year! I also planted cucumber, about 8 varieties lol. My hubby and I decided this year we are doing a "pickle-off." Which is best, Chicago, Boston, Pickling, etc.... adds a little excitement to our garden life. Also planted several eggplants varieties and a ton of squash...
