Exploring: 3 Easter Eggers may be up for adoption in NH

I'm thinking about giving away 3 Easter Eggers because I have a raccoon invasion and in order to keep them safe, they're pretty much locked up all the time. Even then, the coons are ripping the wire mesh from the coop frame. They used to roam pretty nicely, and to keep them in a small coop feels...

What heating pads don't have auto shut-off?

I did just that, much better. Now it's like a warm tunnel to race around, over and under.

What heating pads don't have auto shut-off?

Photos: Note how the MHP is slanted, this allows chicks to decide how warm they want to be. When they get a bit bigger, I'll move to the classic, symmetrical shape. The pad is mounted to the underside of the mesh with velcro, but I cut a slit in the cloth cover to secure it and pad the mesh...

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Just a quick thank you for this thread. I made one today and haven't been happier. Chicks are content, I can sleep well knowing there won't be a fire. Seriously, THANK YOU.

I will try to take pictures tomorrow so that this text makes sense.

What heating pads don't have auto shut-off?

Unfortunately, I didn't really pay attention until after I took off the cloth and foam pad. I put my hand down and found one side was about twice the heat as the other. I would think that it was the foam pad side, and that the foam diffuses the heat, making it more comfortable for the user...

What heating pads don't have auto shut-off?

Looks like it! I rigged it up today: Velcro attached to the underside of a 1/4 inch mesh frame I slit the cover to slide over the mesh I removed the foam liner Note that one side is much warmer than the other (at least with mine) I originally had it as a symmetrical curve like a quonset hut...

What heating pads don't have auto shut-off?

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07V1GZGR4/ Mine was just delivered today, I have to say it's working wonderfully. Whomever first posted the MHP idea, THANK YOU. This is my first time without a broody hen, and the chicks are happily sleeping underneath the pad and I don't have to fear a...

Broody, chicks and a tall coop

I have a broody hen that just hatched 7 chicks, all 2-3 days old. The coop: She hatched them in the coop, a 3x4 box that is raised about 3 feet off the ground. This is chicken central, where the roost and nests are. I have a long ramp that leads to the entrance of the coop. It's fairly steep...

    Frostbite, soft shell, stopped laying

Hi gang, I could use your help and wisdom: My 9 month old hen got a bit of frostbite on her comb. We had a strong cold snap and I couldn't get to her in time. When I got out the Bag Balm, she had already had white spots on her comb, and now they've blackened. She was fine for a few days, then...

    Foot injury and limping

Wow, that was quick! Thank you both. I'll try to post a picture tomorrow, but she's covered in splotches of Blue Kote, so they're next to worthless. She does eat and drink well, so I'll pick up some vertericyn tomorrow at Tractor Supply when I go to get a nicer isolation pen for her.
