I have an open tub of water that my hens drink from and my duck can submerge his head and drink from.
We have a surprise chick that’s hatched and it will be able to jump into the water tub before long and not be able to get out.
What are some safe solutions y’all use that work for everyone?
We had the duck in a kennel for a while as she was aggressive to them at first but she’s fine with them now. The deal is that the duck needs access to water that they can’t physically get in to, but deep enough that they can submerge their head to rinse out their nostrils. I just can’t figure...
We use a 3 gallon bucket for our duck’s water. We also have chicks that are starting to hop up and I rescued a chick from that bucket of water. Without a mama hen to watch over, do you have any ideas on a safe water solution for everyone?
We have this cutie, about 2 1/2 months old. By appearance, it seems to be a girl, but by “quack” it seems boy. Its noises are soft chirps, no quacks. We bought it from a vendor at our farmer’s market. She said it’s a barnyard mix.
I appreciate your thoughts. I guess we’ll have to handle things differently next time if we have anymore hatch. The litter box is closed on all sides except for the front so any of the chickens could have had access.
We have a barred rock mama sitting on eggs. Her first chick hatched this morning and in a matter of hours, when we went back to check on it, the chick had a bloody back. We left it while we fixed up a separate container to care for it in but now we don’t see it and the peeping has stopped...
Thank you, I do not know when she last laid, but not since we’ve had her inside and it’s been a couple days. She is pooping and that seems normal. Both feet are tucked under her. I forgot to mention that I did do an epsom salt soak for 20 min yesterday and after that is when her prolapse...
I have an almost 1 year old barred rock. For 2 days she hasn’t been able to bear her own weight, she looked to have had slight vent prolapse (2nd photo) but it seems to be better now, she is panting.
We have her in the house and she is drinking some, eating some.
I have never looked at our...
I went to let out the chickens and discovered a chicken sitting OUTside the coop in the yard. She can't stand, is panting and has a poopy butt (maybe because she can't stand to poop?). She is almost a year old. No signs of injury anywhere.
Mostly just gather, though I don't appreciate pecking so I don't give them a chance to do it. I feel like they would if given a chance. They do see me dump out the food.
Our 8-week-old barred rock hens have a behavior we've never experienced before in our previous chickens. We go to the coop in the a.m. to let them out to free range. I dump a few big scoops of chicken food out in view of them outside the door, then I step back and open the door. Instead of...
