You need to assist it foot. You take some painters tape and make it a boot. Put down a little tape, spread the toes out on the tape then cover with additional tape. This will get the chick used to having its toes spread like normal. (It should have done it immediately).
Give it three days...
I would disconnect it from the egg, leaving the membrane attached. The chick, once mobile, will remove the rest. I have also done what fortcluck suggested.
Okay, good move. Blood is bad, but finding it doesn't auto kill the quacker. Now I am more a chick assistant, but this is the issues I have with them. Pipping is fine and taking there time is fine. But once it is over 24 hours I will candle them to make sure they have room in the egg. I...
I am assuming you are finished with your hatch. I saw another message where you said the egg turner had failed. If their is some residue on the motor of the turner, wipe with paper towel. If there is a residue then it is grease and I would clean with a mild bleach solution.
If your hatch...
I will not ask to join the duck club. My ducks have commanded that I be apart, so I am. :celebrate

I will post pics soon.
I like the fence idea, but that will make it harder to manage the garden (it is 80x100). I think the ducks will just have to rotationally graze with everyone else.
I have Silver Appleyard's (2 boys, four girls). I read stories guide to ducks, many posts here, watched youtube, etc. I do love some research. They all said ducks are good with the garden, just don't let them near the tender (young) plants. So the ducks came of age as my garden was finishing...
Three pipped and hatched this morning. Just candled the rest and everyone is lining up for tomorrow. I guess they wanted to be November babies. The two Cornish Cross under White Rock eggs are still looking good.
Here is a pic of the three that hatched today: Ignore the two white ones (pure...
They lay similar to a barred rock. I have had three of 12 decide to make a run at being broody (they hatched in Feb). My barred rocks didn't do that, so far breaking hasn't been hard. The boys are bigger than my older Barred Rock boys, so I think the growth on the males is good. The boys are...
