Thanks so much!! We turned off the heat at everyone’s suggestion, when the overnight temps were temporarily a bit higher than they had been.
That was last week (as of tomorrow) and now as of tonight, they are in their big kid coop with their new roosting space!!! They seem very happy!! :)
I agree in the context of having a mother hen around but they have nothing for natural heat! I live in a pretty cold place that has significant temperature extremes and chickens are a pretty broad group of birds having different temperature tolerances. Also, my local bird population has already...
wow so all of these infographics i'm seeing online are wrong??? this is good to know lol. first time chicken mom, here.
the overnights in august got VERY cold (5 celcius) right after weeks of heatwaves, so didn't remove the heat before now because i thought the shift from 25c to 5c would have...

thank you!!! :D
ETA: bedding is puppy...
maybe switch the bedding to a puppy pee pad with some pine shavings instead of wood chips? i am not an expert but perhaps its little toes are struggling to grip the ground with the wood chips LOL they're so pathetic <3
yaaas!!! i was supposed to get mille fleur bantams last year but the woman who had them had some racoons break into her chicken yard and so we didn't end up getting them :( so sad, as i LOVE mille fleurs! i'm pumped to add those in the future too! gonna look through your posts now so i can see...
after almost 2 years of working on our coop, we finally have it basically finished, and i bit the bullet and got 10 bantam easter eggers for my first ever chickens.
we are thrilled and i'm excited to watch them grow and their feathers come in so i can choose their names <3
so far the dark one...
Thank you so much :) I've been lurking that forum for a while before finally getting chickens because I want to be super ultra prepared lol. And lots of chicken podcasts the past couple of years too! I want them to be soooo happy and healthy!!
