Thanks for the input. I think Im going to end up either getting some hatching eggs or wait and grab some pullets from the feed store that my son in law works at. We thought we had a couple of EEs but even though they have the greenish legs I am only getting brown eggs so Im thinking their...
Lost my flock of girls last summer to a fisher. Last fall I purchased a few mixed pullets locally, close to the laying age. They have just started to lay over the last couple of weeks YAY!
Turns out one of them is a Roo! Soooo, my question is do I wait it out and see if anyone goes broody or...
Ok I have a really stupid newbie question lol! This will be my first year with maturing guinea hens (I got them as keets last spring). I'm hoping to be able to incubate their eggs which will be a first for me. I know the cycle is generally 28 days.....but do we put the eggs in the incubator...
Haven't been on in months but I figured I'd better check in. Thought we were doing good this winter. I kept the guineas in their stall all winter after letting them out one day when there was snow on the ground and the poor things weren't interested in going outside. They have a large stall...
Sad turn of events for Peanut....We lost her on Thursday last week. I have been skeptical as to if she would survive. Not only being blind, she was the runt. The babies have been free ranging during the days when I am home. She started to lose her stamina early last week. Wednesday she...
Haven't updated recently on my blind little Peanut. She is doing very well. Still the smallest of the group.
We moved them into their stall yesterday. She ended up being the last one that was moved over. The 15 others were in the back corner of the stall and I put her down in the front...
Hi Everybody Sorry I haven't been on sooner to update on Peanut. Things are still going really well with him/her. They are 5 weeks tomorrow. We have moved them to the bigger cage...I can't believe how fast they have grown.
Peanut is still slightly smaller than its siblings but is eating...
I still dont think Peanut can see completely. The one eye seems to be partially clouded and the other still completely clouded...it isn't a thick covering though, so I don't know if there is limited sight. Hoping for the best though, since we have 16 of them in all, I'm hoping that he/she will...
Just an update....Peanut is still going strong! Still a bit smaller than the rest of the siblings. However, he/she is feathering at the same rate as the rest of them...boy do they look rough. This is my first time with keets and I'm surprised how fast their feathers are coming in.
I do...
Just thought I would give an update on Peanut...I am happy to say that Peanut seems to be getting around and following its siblings. I just went out and Peanut was happily eating out of the feed dish with the rest of the group. That is the first time I found her eating from the dish and not off...
Just wanted to update....yesterday Peanut was very excited about its water and yogurt (I added the crumbles to the yogurt). It actually seemed to be "looking" for it instead of me forcing it on it.
We went out and got home late last night....the keets brooder is in our mudroom, so it is the...
Thanks for the suggestions....I'll try the yolk and starter in the a.m. She actually really seems to like the yogurt. Not sure how much she/he (LOL) should be getting. I've been bringing it in about every hour and dipping its beak in both the yogurt and water. Then it kind of falls asleep in...
So we tried sprinkling the crumbles in the middle of the group....little one didn't eat it. She is drinking when we dip her beak in water. I ran to the store and grabbed some yogurt. She did eat some yogurt when I dipped her beak in it. I don't know how much is too much...I just kind of...
