My chicken "Jeffrey" started laying eggs at about 6 mos.( 1 per day) She will be a year in 2 weeks. In the last few days she doesn't want to go outside, she is pulling out her feathers, her stomach is bare ( 2" x 5") area, she stopped laying eggs .. the last egg she laid she has been sitting on...

My chicken has recently been pulling out her feathers,and is lathargic - chirps ocassionally, she is mobile, but she is very protective of an egg. Any idea of what's happening or what to do to help her?
