I actually like to leave the light on for them, they scream much less I find. I think they like to see each other if they cant they get upset, nothing to cuddle with. You'll notice they will cuddle in the incubator together.
do what one of the other posted suggested, i peck the food with the finger and do a high pitch peep peep peep, they come running. If you ever what a hen with her chicks she has a peep like that to tell them to come eat or look at something.
Thats a good question, lol. Someone might know Im sure other people have moved them. I was going to suggest chicken moving boxes, they are plastic crates that stack well but with quail as soon as you open the door to put one in the other run out. I use cat carriers to move mine and you have to...
Hokum coco I have a shed just like you little grey one i'm trying to do up, can you explain what you did? I'm over on the other side of the country in BC but it gets cold here too. Thanks
I've seen other pictures of birds like this all over. I wonder if there is a type of "frizzle" gene in quail. None of mine look like that. Sure someone knows more.
i'll be moving mine inside for the winter so im not much help yet. lol. I have an unfinished basement room they will be going it with an exhaust fan thing to keep the smell down and fresh air coming in. I will be trying deep litter to see how it works, dont want to be cleaning it all the time.
what are you doing with the eggs? if you are eating them you can check and see if he is doing the deed by looking for a tiny white spot on the yolk. IF you find one he's doing ok
If he's your only rooster he may not crow. And he may also not have the need to grab the girls when ever he can and mount them. NO competition for him. I have 3 roosters in with my 15 girls and they are constantly running after each other grabbing girls and being nasty. Your might just like to...
Yeah I have one like that right now. His one legs is really twisted. I tried to help him but its too far gone and really hurts him. He came out of the egg wrong, he pipped the small side and was in kinda sideways, so I'm sure thats what buggered his legs up.
I worked at a layer breeder farm here in BC Canada. Its was a free range breeder egg farm. White leghorns and brown. When they had to many breeder eggs for the hatcherys the eggs would go the stores to be eaten. Thats why you'll see some fertile some not.
