I have a lame hen and can not figure out the problem.

That was the last thing I said to her, "when I see you next, tell me if I was right or wrong."

I have a lame hen and can not figure out the problem.

I talked to a bird specialist and his suspicion was she had been bit by a brown recluse or black widow which live here too which would explain the semi paralysis and perhaps the slow devolution of her appetite.

Well, I had to put her down. 12 days, no recovery at all, almost like her legs were semi paralyzed the whole time, continued to lay on her side, which meant her poop couldn't pass past her feathers which brought the attention of flies which brought maggots. I bathed her a dozen times, cuddled...

Yellow poop. She died two days later

I've buried six chickens and three chicks. Nothing wrong with that fellow traveler.

Ebony, I was able to connect with a bird rescue guy and he found the issue. She badly bruised the top of her thigh bone. The difference between right and left is obvious. He thinks she will recover with time.

A vet does not appear to be an option, either totally booked or don't see chickens. I am going to check with the wildlife rescue. Have you seen recovery from such an injury?

Ebony, I was cleaning her vent after a cage poop and noticed this. See how her right leg is dangling?

Their area is an incline and they can fly a good distance down it. If this is the case, is this something a hen can recover from?

She is not showing distress when I manipulate her legs. The suddenness of this is what confounds me. Does her right foot look like bumblefoot to you? Its almost like her hip is dislocated. Could a rooster do that?

something more than just her foot seems to be bothering her. I wonder if the rooster hurt her by accident. He is twice her size
