I was recently taken to court for shooting a dog in the foot that had come into my yard in an enclosed area and killed many of my chickens. Had prevously taken some dead chickens to owner and asked them to tie the dogs up, or some way keep them off my property. Which they did fence them in...
Thanks so much for your answers. I was going to move her as had been suggested, but I think I might just leave her where she is. I am used to hens clucking before they actually take a nest to hatch out eggs, so the guinea hen gave me a supprise. yesterday another guinea took to the other nest...
I was wondering if I could move her. This is my very first broody guinea. I probably need to wait until dark like moving a chicken then. Thanks for your help.
Have a guinea hen on nest for two days. She has quite a few guinea eggs under her. Other guineas are laying in same nest. What can I do to stop them? They are in a pen and house, shut up except late in the evening when they are allowed to range. Nests are in their house.
a few of my guineas layed outside of the proped up boards a time or two when they first layed, but now lay in the nests with the others. Seems they all want to lay behind just two of the plyboard boards. A few eggs are layed behind the others but not many.
I fixed my guinea nests a good while before they started laying as I did not know exactly when they would start. I thought if I waited until I found an egg laying somewhere they might be skittish about any nest I might fix. They don't seem to like anything changed around them. I have four...
I don't know what you have your guineas locked up in, but all I do is prop a piece of plywood against the wall of the house they roost in. I put a mixture of leaves and pine straw on the ground behind the board and put in either golf balls, chicken eggs or guinea eggs, whichever I have. After...
We found a lot of milk crates on the side of the road several years ago and finally found a use for them. As hen nests. We put about a 4 inch board the width of the front to hold in the eggs and straw and nail it to the sides then nail the bottom of the crate to a piece of plywood a little wider...
Our guineas started laying about a week ago. Yesterday they layed 2 eggs.Up fom one a day. I have waited almost a year for this event and also have much to learn about hatching keets from their eggs. I read somewhere that you had to take the keets away from the hen at hatching if you were not...
Our baby chicks recently got pasty butts. We used sand out of the grandchildrens sand box. Sprinkled a little on, and mixed it with their food. No more pasty butt. Due to weather these were inside a brooder. We have, in the past used just sandy soil from the yard. We have 3 hens running around...
I haven't tried this myself but will with this seasons hatch. I understand it takes some practice, but I have heard if you pick them up and feel the bones just before the vent, with experience and patience you can tell by the width between them. The widest being female, with the male hardy any...
Hope to soon have guinea eggs as soon as they decide to lay some. Have several guineas to sell that are almost a year old . I live in Marion county about 30 miles south of Columbus.
I can tell our guineas apart by the waddles. The males are larger, longer and have a cup shape. They cup towards the front. The females have shorter waddles and they are flatter and go back farther on their neck. I have noticed that the males beak is red next to his head and the rest is horn...
We have some week old chicks from a hatchery that have been having pasty butts pretty bad. Have been puting baby oil on them. They have been fed only chick grower. Have another batch from a BYCer that have had the same food but with a dish of sand with them. No problem with them, so have put a...
