Ok so just got 6 chicks from tsc this afternoon, they just got there today.... Was told a couple days old. After I got them set up I noticed their crops were huge!! Did they just gorge themselves or is it normal in them this young? I have only had week old plus chicks before. And they keep on...
thank you, it's OK..... I realize I don't know what I'm doing yet, which is why I'm asking yall's advice...just felt like I was being bashed for being a dummy and I'm a little sensitive about it anyway since my daughter got hurt. I've gotten ALOT of great advice about the matter from everyone...
oh no. Didn't want to replace, we are just unlucky getting roos.... Our first 6 chicks were silkies, one hen I still have, but 3 roos in that batch so I sold pairs and then the last roo was killed by a hawk recently :(.... Now I know to make sure I get sexed chickens!!! Will definitely take...
actually we wouldn't have, but we originally got 4 as week old chicks, and didn't know til later that one was a roo. By that time kids already loved them all and we had no issues. He didn't start his dance til a couple weeks ago and got my daughter this weekend. Like I said I'm new, didn't have...
ok very helpful, I have heard of McMurray so I will definitely look into that!! I guess what I meant by "tag".... I'm thinking Facebook... Is when you are writing and u mention another user and there name is in bold, didn't know if it notified them that u were mentioning them. We don't eat a ton...
Thank you for being so nice!! I love the look of the Cochin's, definitely my next purchase though finding them local may be hard.... But the thought of mail order scares me!! I can't figure out how to tag, and quote on here?! :)
Thank you cochinlover1..... Free ranging...... I guess they are?? They are in coops at night and during day I let big two out but they are in a big fenced in area on our side yard do we they don't have access to our backyard where kids play and we spend our time. Just in case it was thought that...
Ok donrae, I came on here stating that I was a newbie and asking if this was aggression or dominance establishing.... BC I'm new and wasn't positive. Everyone has to learn right? I'm not going to endanger my children which was why I was asking opinions on the best course of action. I don't know...
Thank all of y'all for your input.... I guess overall I need to decide what I want to do BC I keep the 3 silkies separated BC the barnyard mix roo and hen are bigger, although the hen is very sweet and meek.... I wanted a bunch of chickens running around together and so far haven't been able to...
We strung line up in the air all over their free range area to deter hawks ( I have lost two silkie roosters to hawks prior) and they are secured in coops at night. I don't want to get rid of him but I can't have him being aggressive to kids either. The behavior he shows towards the silkie hen...
I didn't see what he did until he jumped up at her,i was a few feet away but she said she was trying to feed him (which we always do, I have had him and the hen since a few days old) and she said he kept scooting towards her (I'm thinking the dominant dance) then he jumped at her face, she has a...
There is only one hen he is with, I have an 9 mo old silkie hen and a 3 mo old pair of silkies that he just stalks outside of their pen.... I let them out together once and he immediately jumped on the young rooster and hen and I couldn't handle it so he hasn't had access to them other than...
