    Deworming for tapeworm-question

Thanks so much for the quick reply @dawg53 ! I really appreciate it! Also it was so nice of you to give me the dosage! Thanks 😊 🤗 I will go today and get the Eqvalan Gold. Yes, I found the segments crawling in a poop yesterday. I have the suspected chicken in a cage to fast and monitor. She...

    Deworming for tapeworm-question

The tapeworm came back now that it is spring. I will heed your advice now @dawg53 and get a praziquantel containing dewormer. I have the choice between Eqvalan Gold (ivermectin and praziquantel) or Quest Plus (moxidectin and praziquantel). Which one should I get for the chickens with tapeworm...

    Scabs on vent

Thank you for the empathy! 🤗 I don’t wash her anymore, as I found doing it or not doing it made no difference. Whenever the scab is removed, it bleeds. (The vet made it bleed of course).

    Scabs on vent

We finished the antibiotics a week ago. There is no significant change to her vent. It does look a bit better, but there is still a small area with that scabbing ooze. Because she is otherwise doing well, I will just let her be now. Hoping it will slowly go away with time. I check her once a...

    Scabs on vent

She is on amoxicillin twice a day for 7 days now. I really hope this changes something.

    Scabs on vent

I contacted the vet, waiting to hear back. I need him to prescribe the antibiotics. I’ll let you know how it goes.

    Scabs on vent

My vet is not good with chickens… unfortunately.

    Scabs on vent

I haven’t thought of giving her antibiotics. I don’t have chicken specific antibiotics on hand. Is there one you would recommend?

    Scabs on vent

I just wanted to update on my scabby vent hen. I carefully soaked it daily until the end of December. The scab would come off after a few days, with yellow ooze under it, and the a new one would form. I stopped soaking it and just checked her once a week. It seems to be doing the same thing...

    Scabs on vent

Oh, and I never saw any of the others peck at it.

    Scabs on vent

Thank you both for your input. @Wyorp Rock would you suggest epsom salt over chlorhexidine soap? In the beginning (over 7 weeks ago) I did epsom salt, then found a thread with a similar case on here, where it was suggested that epsom salt would dry it out too much. So I went with what they said...

    Scabs on vent

Hello everyone My hen has had sc her vent for over 7 weeks now. I thought it was an injury at first, or that she had had a prolapse, but after bathing and treating her daily for so many weeks with no improvement, I assume it must be something else. I got her to stop laying by keeping her in a...

Decreasing supplemental light-gradually or all at once?

It was a win win decision. We still get 3 eggs a day, even without the lights. Yay! 😁

Decreasing supplemental light-gradually or all at once?

The hens had their first day of winter holiday. I’m sure they enjoyed the sleep in. The one who was still laying layed her probably last egg. 😊 Thanks again, everyone.
