I don't have a way to confine just her to the coop, could I move her to the brooder?

    Broody Hen left baby chicks

I have a broody hen. It's her second year going broody so I thought Id get her some baby chicks. I got them, put them under her late last night, removed the eggs and she took the babies. This morning I went out, shes in the run clucking like she's still broody, but the babies are running around...

    Heat Illness or Respiratory?

I have a hen (now isolated) who has been acting off, this is day 3. At first I thought heat, so she's isolated with a fan, water, and food. She won't roost or lie down so I thought egg bound, checked and found no egg. She hasn't laid in several days. She is drinking, eating some (none this...

Rooster and New Pullets, Whats too rough

I was getting scratch he hit me with his wings, flogged me. His hormones are high right now, his legs and feet at so red, but he's generally very good so I think he's just hormonal. I've been spending a lot of time out with the chicks and protecting them, I think I'll have to continue to do...

Rooster and New Pullets, Whats too rough

I wish these had been hatched by one of my hens, but they were gifted to me in February so they have been in the garage until a few weeks ago when I started introductions with the flock free ranging and the new pullets in a safe cage.

Rooster and New Pullets, Whats too rough

Is there anything else I can do to help? Should I just pull the babies out for a few more weeks? Or perhaps isolate the rooster for a week?

Rooster and New Pullets, Whats too rough

Early this year I got 5 new chicks, all have turned out to be pullets thankfully. They are now 10 weeks old. I've been doing slow introductions with the pullets safely in a space where they can see and safely interact with my existing flock. I've been doing things like communal scratching...

Did I make the situation worse?

I have a hormonal teenage rooster who has recently taken to trying to flog me. I've chased him, bribed him, walked into him and today when he tried it he got booted. After his somersault, he laid down. I'm wondering if I did more harm then good. I've tried catching him to hold him, but no luck...

Mixed Age Chicks ... When can they go in the coop?

Here's the forecast, I'm being conservative with the numbers I gave. I was thinking of making the move in a week, should I go 2?

Mixed Age Chicks ... When can they go in the coop?

I have a mixed flock of chicks, ages 5 weeks to 2 weeks. They have been together for 2 weeks, so well integrated. I'm in Middle TN, temps are ranging from upper 30s at night to low 50s during the day, we've had a few 80 degree days. Chicks are in the brooder in the garage. I am weaning them off...

Introduction: New to BYC and have Questions

I'm ok with them not being alone with the chickens and due to not trusting neighbor dogs we built a larger run and planned to do supervised free range. I'd like the dogs to just be able to be ok off leash during supervised free range
