Yes, they were vaccinated both from a reputable breeder and a hatchery. I’m reading up on the disease, and everything says they can still contract Merek’s even if vaccinated since there are 6 mutated strains of it. Information I’ve read says they can contract it through wild birds, other...
After keeping chickens for my entire life, I have had my first encounter with Merek’s in my flock. Tears flowing. So naturally, I began looking into causes of the virus. (I discovered chickens that have been vaccinated can still get one of the 6 mutated strains of it, and my Bielefelder who...
I’ve always done it manually, but my friends around the corner uses the Yardbird and everything turns out beautifully! We have decided in investing in one in a few months.
I've been purchasing chicken feed and other other animal feed from TSC for years and they're fairly reasonable in price. I worked there for over 2 years and I know from first hand experience that their feed rotation is good.
I'm very interested. I have 9 roosters, and 5 of them are VERY loud and VERY constant crowers! I'm fairly certain that there are plenty of people who would need on or two... If the price isn't ridiculous. How long do you think it'll be before you can get them onto the market?
We have a lavender Orpington who went aggressive due to two Marans roosters (which we re-homed). We did the cradling him and walking around with him thing; making sure to hold tighter when he struggled. I also held his head and feet snuggly (not painfully) for dominance purposes. I am very happy...
Thank you for the ideas. I'll give fermentation a try. Unfortunately, I don't know which girl it is who's laying the thin shells considering the amount chickens I have. I'm ashamed to admit that I'm a victim of chicken math.
I have a couple hens who have thin shells, but have had no luck whatsoever of getting them to eat oyster shells. I have somewhat better luck with feeding them their crushed egg shells, but I don’t always have an abundance of that calcium source and they tend to waste the majority...
With all...
Thank you! It’s nice to be able to have a place like BYC to go to for ideas and support. Like the long staples... I would never have thought of that because of the sandy and loose soil of Florida that I’m accustomed to. Tennessee has clay which holds things down much better.
