Adding 3 pullets to a small “flock”

That is a possibility. Our current coop/run is a tractor one so we can move it around the yard. I kind of like that setup though and combining the coops would probably make that impossible. However, if I could figure out a way to park them next to each other and have a window / door so they...

Adding 3 pullets to a small “flock”

I found a similar setup on Facebook Marketplace for $200 so I might get it as a backup. I think 6 will be maximum capacity for sure. Any input on having 2 coops versus 1 big one? Will it prevent bonding if they sleep in different coops?

Adding 3 pullets to a small “flock”

I am definitely more of the cuddle with my chickens kids of person. I will measure the coop tomorrow. I can’t remember the dimensions. The guy who had it before us had 10 chickens in it although I cannot imagine that many fitting inside. Our run isn’t large either, but we don’t really confine...

Adding 3 pullets to a small “flock”

That might work. Thanks again for all of your advice. I posted a picture of our coop. It is small, but it has 3 nesting boxes and 2 roosting bars so they should all fit. If it is an issue, we will get another similar setup and separate them so they have enough space.

Adding 3 pullets to a small “flock”

Thank you for the info. I like the wire separation idea!! What do you do when they are free ranging though? Ours free range during the day while we are home. We have a small (4-6 chicken) tractor coop and run setup.

Adding 3 pullets to a small “flock”

Hi... chicken rookie here. At the end of July, we got 4 “pullets” from Tractor Supply. 2 light brahmas and 2 silver speckled hamburgs. Turns out 1 Brahma and 1 Hamburg are roosters. 🤦‍♀️ The silver speckled Hamburg pullet was killed by a Hawk, which was devastating. So, now we have 3 chickens...

    Hello from Nokesville, VA

Hi, I know this thread is old, but I am in Nokesville too!!! Are you still here and do you still have your flock?

    Light Brahma rooster????

Ironically, all signs point to Betty Clucker (our only confirmed hen) being the leader of the flock. She is always first out of the coop in the morning; she eats first; and she is the first one to run up to us and eat treats out of our hands. Our earliest crowing rooster (since we have 2...

    Light Brahma rooster????

I really, really do don’t want 15+ chickens. I think I am going to see how it goes and maybe get 3 pullets this spring to introduce in the mix. 6 is my max.

    Light Brahma rooster????

We only have 3 chickens (our silver spangled puller was killed by a Hawk 😢). All of the 4 we got from Tractor Supply were all supposed to be pullets. So far, our other silver speckled Hamburg is a rooster and now I am thinking Stella, one of the 2 light Brahma pullets we got is a Stanley. Ugh...

    Hamburg and Brahma mix?

They were raised together and are inseparable. We only have the three chickens. Rocky, our rooster (whom we were old was a girl when we got her) just started crowing yesterday. He is quite impressed with himself.

    Hamburg and Brahma mix?

So, we have 2 light Brahma hens (Stella and Betty Clucker) and 1 Silver Speckled Hamburg rooster (Rocky). All are around 4 months old. Rocky, pictured, just started crowing. Any chance he will successfully fertilize an egg with one of our hens? They are much larger than he is. We had a Hamburg...

Unofficial BYC Poll: Where do you get your chicks from?

I am hopeful that maybe the people who are telling me he is a rooster are wrong!! Ha. Or, he will be a reasonable rooster and our neighbors won't kill us. I hope we can keep him. Our son is very attached to all of them and they really love him too. One (the one in my profile picture - Pepper)...

Unofficial BYC Poll: Where do you get your chicks from?

We ordered our first ever chicks from Meyer Hatchery and all 3 arrived dead. Our son was gutted. It was awful. I know they are a great hatchery and it isn't reflective of them (their customer service was awesome and refunded my money immediately). But, I NEVER will order chicks again. We went to...
