She hasn't started laying yet, she hatched in April. I was just able to obtain the goat Safeguard - at 5.7 pounds, can you confirm what dose of this she should be receiving? And thank you so much!
We live in a very rural area and don't really have an avian vet - most folks around here just cull sick birds. But yes, we do have gapeworms here I believe.
Hey folks. Our 5-month-old muscovy female, Stump Duck, hasn't been quite right for the last several days. On Tuesday she basically sat in a bush alone all day and did not want to eat. Every day since, she has resumed eating, drinking, and hanging out with the flock. She seems to want to drink a...
I'm still learning about chicken genetics and lavender is confusing me a bit. If I put my lavender roo over my legbars, what kinds of colors would I be looking at in the F1 crosses?
All cockerels but one, I fear, but I wonder if anyone has ideas on the breeds of these six week olds!
The black one has an impressive rose comb and stand-up tail feathers. I'm pretty sure the one with the muff is a bantam EE (her legs are SO green!) but the others are wholly a mystery to me.
I have spitzhaubens and this definitely isn't one. They're less than half the size of spitzes at this age and fewer spots, too, but I totally agree - everybody on the farm has commented that they do look kind of like one!
Clean legged, small crest. Probably the size of a small 2-week-old standard chicken, but they are nearly 6 weeks old. They came from Cackle in a bantam mix and I'm stumped! We've never seen one this tiny! They're dwarfed by the silkies and the bantam rocks!
There were six terrific silkies in this Cackle order - easily the nicest silkies I have ever seen from a hatchery line. Very pleased with them this year.
4 weeks old today. Came in an order from Cackle but was unaccounted for in my order, and they are not a breed I have ever seen before. Appears to be standard size and does have very feathered feet.
Early Monday morning, a chick from our hen's clutch hatched earlier than the others. But the hen is apparently a bad mama, and gave it several pretty harsh pecks. We removed the chick to a safe area, cleaned the wounds with a bit of saline, and have been putting polysporin on the primary wound...
As the title says - we're baffled. 12 weeks old and we have no idea what's going on with this "guy." This chicken is BIGGER than all of the other blue guys - we're sure the other blues are cockerels due to their long and curving tail feathers and pointy saddle feathers. I thought this guy was a...
