Well things move fast around here. The youngsters were looking a bit cramped, so I spent the weekend building the grow-out enclosure for the rest of the acclimation process. Here is the stages of the build. First the framework. I built it in panels for convenience- easy breakdown when the...
It’s been over a month now, and my 12 became 7. 5 didn’t survive the stress and rigors of the shipping process and passed within 72 hours of arrival. That was disheartening but the rest are thriving nicely. At 2.5 weeks I graduated them to a large dog crate covered in hardware cloth which worked...
Just to add, I am pretty utilitarian in practice, so its another reuse of a stock tank. Reuse of my Sunbeam Heating Pad, Reuse of the Hardware Cloth Frame. The wooden block is for the waterer, to keep a level foundation for the waterer.
So, I am beginning the third iteration of my flock today. I ordered a selection of a dozen chicks and they are due to arrive later today (anyone else obsessively stare at USPS tracking data?). I just thought I'd post my brooder setup just for fun and discussion while I await the call from our...
Yes it is! I get some chocalate brown eggs, green eggs to go with my ham......LOL I personally am more of a single breed type, but the wife won this round. :)
I had a happy accident! I recovered my old heating pad (sunbeam) from the barn... The pad lining has been mouse chewed in one spot, but testing out it still works fine! So press and seal here I come and canceled the one I ordered on Amazon. Another box checked on the preparations!
Hi! It's been quite awhile since I posted on here. Life has been super busy, with all kinds of trials and tribulations. I am gearing up for my 3rd iteration of my chicken flock currently. I have 12 day olds arriving in 2 weeks of differing varieties: 3 Polish, 4 differing Marans, 2 Olive...
Howdy everyone! It's been a very long time since I've been on here. For the first time in 8 years, I find myself readying to brood some day old chicks I've ordered. Poking around here to find the heating pad brooder recipes. The former heating pad I used years ago bit the dust and I haven't...
And, Hi!
I'm back. Flock is doing well, but Bob is gone. Euthanized late last winter. He was just too enthusiastic with the girls, and they were missing too many feathers. Then 2 weeks ago, Ethel the Easter Egger passed away with no obvious disease or injuries. Maybe she had an egg...
Hi aart,
I had to do the same thing last winter with our oldest Lab. 16 years he lived and loved us unconditionally. We have a reg Vet, and she came to our home to bring him to a peaceful end. It was really well done, we all got to say our goodbyes and get a final hug. The other dogs also...
I haven’t posted in awhile, things have crazy here. One of our cats got poisoned by the neighbor trying to put a stop to their mouse problem. He was at deaths door, but is making a very slow recovery at home after a 4 day and night vet stay.
So I took a second to pop in and say Hi!
Not purchased. Came from my friends farm. No Wyandottes there. No Easter Eggers either. They do have Ameraucana though.. One of the 5 that hatched is at least half Ameraucana - came out of a blue egg. The hen in the pic went broody so I put eggs under her.
