Yep thats pretty much the plan... I was just wondering for this situation when I should do a float test (now, before I "trash" eggs, etc).
My biggest concern is that I have two that haven't pipped internally and the air pocket looks to be an odd shape quite large. Leading me to think that the...
Day 21 was yesterday. I candled the eggs last night. One internal pip found. No signs of movement on any of them. I've read a bunch of the resources on hatching (hatching 101, hatching assistance, common issues). But I dont know what the course of action is to take if on hatch day the temp...
Terra chirping encouragement to the chicks!
So I had 3 hatch yesterday (day 20). Two were EEs. The first one seemed fine, the other had a sac that wasn't completely absorbed but seemed relatively strong and we decided just to let nature take its course. At some point the sac tore/punctured...
today is day 17, and of 15 eggs we culled one at day 4 and the rest of them all look viable. 11 of them show STRONG signs of growth, and the remaining 3 are just plain hard tell. We are very suprised with how well we are doing with these shipped eggs. When we go to lockdown, how concerned...
So I came home yesterday to find my honey visited southern states and according to him "Just couldn't resist" coming home with 10 chicks because "they were just way too cute and asking to come home with me". This little one is named lady bug and has taken a liking to cudding inside my sweater...
So on day 4 after weighing and candling of my 15 EE, buff Orpington, and mix grab bag 6 of them showed strong signs of growth, 2 moderate, 6 either too dark or unsure, and 1 culled for blood ring (tiny tiny crack in shell found).
Tomorrow we will be candling and weighing again. So excited to...
Curious to know where in VA your DH is going.... I am actually interested in a couple duck eggs to hatch. I think my two ducks would be happier in the winter months with some more friends.
I live in Norfolk VA... hence why I'm asking... Feel free to PM me
I had the same issue last year with a still air incubator similar in appearance to that one. This year I put small jars of water in with the eggs and the temp has been much more stable (even through weather changes from 50* to 10* with rain/snow). I have a picture I posted (I think on page 2 or...
Yep - last year I had a difficult time maintaining a consistant temperature. I read that sterile rocks or jars of water absorb heat and help keep the temperature more consistant. Incubator has been at a STEADY 102 with 104 one day and a 100 here and there.
Having a digitial thermometer has...
