With this arrangement how many tube feeders do you need compared to the number of birds (in an arrangement where they are also ranging in small rotating paddocks during the day)? I am pretty new to this, so appreciate the information.
as another note I am planning on also picking up some antibiotics to try. normally I am a proponent of the natural treatment and I myself do not typically go to the doctor in till I have tried everything that I can. however I cannot feel what the chickens are feeling and its so far at this point...
As a side note I really have no way to separate the sickest, at least not for more than a couple hours at a time. And looking back this has been so ongoing really doesn't seem like it would be much help anyways?
Arguments over natural versus conventional aside, all my hens are still with us this morning, however the one is acting poorly as ever. Because I had the supplies on hand for before I go to work this morning, I mixed up some yogurt with Acv and crushed garlic and added this to their mash. I kept...
I feel terrible! I just inherited some chickens (abandoned by neighbors) a couple months ago. Because of wild life attacks they had to no longer be allowed to free range, and seeing them peck each other I assumed this new boredom was the cause of a couple of the hens losing feathers. But about...
This thread is old now - but I'd like similar input - Last week I have "inherited" an established flock of hens (and one rooster) from neighbors that moved away (shared yard, so the birds are not moving at all). And I would like to introduce one hen - that is currently living by itself in my...
Question I read this on the site of the food I am planning on changing my girls to:
" Use whole grain for 5% of the diet for the first two weeks to adapt the gizzard, then, over a couple of weeks more, increase the percentage to whatever level you have decided to feed. Birds fed whole grains...
Hey everyone! Could you help me get an idea of how much I should start with feeding? I just "inherited" 8 hens and a rooster 2 days ago - and have never had chickens before. They have been being fed a typical commercial layer crumble (clipped beaks poor girls). They free feed from a gravity...
As a secondary point - one of the feeds I was looking at seems to contain some actual whole grains - a review stated this about it:
"I have ordered Scratch & Peck directly in the past and the shipping was always very expensive. In my opinion it is of great quality though, lots of whole grain...
I have been wanting to get into having chickens for a while - and some just landed in my lap! So I am a newbie with 8 hens and a rooster - neighbors are moving and couldn't/wouldn't? take the chickens with them - so they have been given to us. And the hens' beaks are all clipped. They have been...
