So far today Bari seems to be acting normally. She's been out with the other girls and earlier when I checked on her she was sitting in the nesting box. No eggs from her yet so I will be going out later to check on her again
This is more of a better safe than sorry thread. Not sure if this is an emergency yet or not, so hopefully someone with more expertise can help me out!
I entered my coop about an hour ago to lock up the girls for the night and Bari, 2 year old Aracauna hen, was in her usual spot, except that...
Thanks for the reply TLWR. I think I'm going to go with trying to integrate her into my chicken flock and see how that goes. I'll keep the plan B option of building her her own place on the back burner in case it doesn't work out. I think I'll go out and buy the smallest kiddie pool I can find...
I'm trying something new here and am adopting a duck from my sister-in-law's brother. He is moving and the codes at the new property in the city allows for three hens. Naturally since I have chickens he thought the duck would be a nice addition to my flock. However, I have never had a duck...
I wouldn't be able to wire off a section because she wouldn't be able to get back into the coop during the day, there's only one door.
Today since the weather was nicer I locked the naughty ones outside and kept her in the coop to eat and drink without being bothered. I noticed she has a hard...
I have 14 birds that are all about 3 years old, they all grew up together.I bought them when they were 2 years old. One of the hens is a Buff Orpington with a bum leg, because her previous owner stepped on her when she was a chick. The leg healed crooked. She can walk but slowly, and only runs...
My horses have been barefoot all their lives (one is 23, one is 9). I have people tell me that I'm stupid to not have them shod, but I haven't had any problems. They get the wild mustang trim and their feet are as hard as rocks. No need for shoes imo
The first year we had him everything was great. It was when he started coming later and later to trim that the WLD appeared. Sometimes he trims off more hoof than at other times, and I've asked him this before. He says he only trims off enough to keep the feet balanced. What would be considered...
Boise, Idaho. We're only about 15 min from the city center, actually. We've got 2 acres in a quiet neighborhood between 2 of the busiest roads here. The boundary just recently changed so that our property is now in the city instead of the county like it's been for the past 30+ years.
Unfortunately we have to use live traps- any other kind in the "city" limits is illegal and we will get fined for it. Then we have to call Fish and Game for them to come and pick up the varmint because we are not allowed to kill or release the trapped animal. However, raccoons are classified as...
My neighbor lady's flock is very aggressive and she has had to give me several of their "victims" over the years. She tried separating the main bossy ladies with no results. When I got the poor girls they were entirely naked and so scared. I had to keep them in a pen adjacent to our flock for...
Check to see if she is egg bound. I've had several hens get egg bound and the behavior they displayed is exactly like your hen. I would start feeding her electrolytes, Powerade/Gatorade, yogurt, scrambled eggs, anything to get some nutrition and energy in her. Force feed her if you have to. It...
