Blood and goop coming out of chicken's butt, is she egg bound? What's going on?

Help! I'm not sure what is up with my favorite chicken. Here are pictures of her rear end, and there was a lot of blood next to her roost this morning. She's not acting lethargic but she is definitely restless. It seems like she went broody this morning, she was on the nest putting the eggs...

    Too many eggs! Suggestions?

You can get in touch with local food assistance programs - they will be THRILLED to get eggs

So many winter eggs, is this normal?

I'm new to chicken keeping, this is my first winter. I also live in Maine and winters here are long, cold, and snowy. And dark. So I was really not expecting any eggs until March, but my chickens started laying again in December! Sporadically at first, but now it's mid-January and I am getting...

Will a hen and a rooster fight to the death?

2 are actually laying already - the Isbars. I guess they lay in winter.

Will a hen and a rooster fight to the death?

I have two 8 month old chickens, one roo and one hen. The rooster has had his one hen all to himself this whole time, and seems to be hostile to other chickens. I have four younger hens (about 5 months old) and I'm trying to combine flocks, because I only have one run. The the last time I tried...

Chickens and little kids... Need help!

We are new to chickens - we got three chicks from a neighbor in April and now 9 from Alchemist farm. Of the three original ones, one of them has already been eaten because he was aggressive, and now the other two (1 male 1 very assertive/top female) are chasing my 3 year old who is very small...

    Is this a rooster?

Thank you!! Interestingly the rooster we had to cull was the same age - five months. But he was bigger and obviously the dominant one. We are new to the chicken world, and atart s out with 3 chicks. 2 of them turned out to be boys so I guess we need to get some more!!

    Is this a rooster?

This chicken is 5 months old. I thought this was a hen as it exhibited no dominant behaviors and never crowed. I had another rooster who led the flock (they are free range) and this one always acted like a hen. Ran for cover when the rooster cried, etc. Then my rooster became aggressive and I...

At what point is overkill on permiter run fencing?

This is wonderful, thank you!! In your opinion, does the apron need to be hardware cloth?

At what point is overkill on permiter run fencing?

Thanks, this is really helpful! This was kind of my feeling too -- why use hardware cloth if something could just climb over the fence. I do think we will put some sort of top on to keep out aerial predators, but probably not right away and it will probably only be chicken wire, so not enough to...

At what point is overkill on permiter run fencing?

In my experience hardware cloth is pretty heavy duty... I'm not sure why I would need to add the welded wire if I do hardware cloth? We haven't had any problems with bears, but they are around. I'm guessing they aren't going to be a big issue.

At what point is overkill on permiter run fencing?

I have a hardware cloth chicken tractor that is only 6 x 10. It's basically a mobile coop, no run. It's for rotational grazing/foraging, so like in the fall I can put them on my garden bed for a few days and let them eat plants and weeds and fertilize it for next year. The full size coupe and...

At what point is overkill on permiter run fencing?

Where did you put the hot wire? On the outside middle and top? Or closer to the bottom? Trying to figure out what you're looking for I keep out with the hot wire.
