Sick hen with sour crop that won’t eat

She is still alive and kicking but has never been quite right. i let my 7 hens free range and she does better when she is out grazing and bugging. She’ll eat worms and grubs but I have never seen her eat the chicken pellets. Her poop is very watery and sometimes it looks like she hasn’t...

Sick hen with sour crop that won’t eat

She is only 8 months. She has been laying well and was probably sick a week or so before I noticed she wasn‘t doing well. Her crop the first morning was large and squishy so I assumed she had sour crop. However, I never smelled a bad smell from her mouth. I started treating her with...

Sick hen with sour crop that won’t eat

I have a very sick chicken that I suspect has a sour crop. Having no knowledge of sour crop, I suspect she may have had it for a while and is very skinny and sick. I have been treating her with small daily doses of miconazole and her crop is getting smaller and she will eat a few pieces of...

I currently have 7 chickens, two white brahmas, two, black sex link, two RIR, and one barred rock. My husband and I moved from the Savannah GA...

    Bare bottom Brahma

Wow, thanks for your response. Lots of great info. I believe they are pin feathers rather than broken feathers, however they just don’t seem to grow. The hens were 1 year in March. I wondered if I would see things improve once they go thru a molt, which they haven’t done yet. I am feeding...

    Bare bottom Brahma

Can anyone tell me why my Brahma has a bare bottom? Actually I have two (out of four) that look like this. Originally I thought it was from one of my barred rocks who I had witness pulling feathers off the others so I re-homed her. That was two months ago. Neither hen has grown any feathers...

Do painless peepers stay on forever?

So I ended up putting a pinless peeper on one of my hens who was being a bully. My question is, do people leave these things on indefinitely or do they remove them after a time? Also how long does it take the hen to figure out how to eat and drink with it on? Thanks in advance for any info you...

Barred rock hen keeps pecking my Brahma and has created open wounds.

Thank you. Going to be tough to separate her but guess I can put her in a large dog crate away from the others.

Barred rock hen keeps pecking my Brahma and has created open wounds.

The coop is 12X6’ all enclosed with a roost box that is 4X6’. They have a fenced “yard” that is about 50’ X 20’. They get layer pellets and crumbles, meal worms, scratch and kitchen scraps. I only have 5 hens (2 barred rocks and 3 white brahmas). Don’t think they have too much to be stressed...

Barred rock hen keeps pecking my Brahma and has created open wounds.

My barred rock hen keeps pecking one of my Brahma hens on her sides just below her wings. This afternoon I discovered these wounds b/c of the blood. I cleaned the Brahma up and put neosporine on her wounds, but how do I make the barred rock stop pecking her? Do people trim beaks? I have no idea...
