Central Huron SOS need a petition! T-T

Hey so my neighbour a few streets over gave me some really beautiful chickens said they were getting overrun after one of their hens went broody under their patio and now they have too many. Problem is we have this mental neighbour who is having a psychotic fit because we’ve stopped letting my...

Nasty black stuff on my chickens...

One of mine had his black substance coming out of the ends of the feathers that are regrowing and only there. Could they be old dried blood clots, because it’s only at the ends of the tubes of regrowing feathers.

Weirdest Things Your Chickens Have Done

So I used to love my rescued chickens, but now I’m convinced that they’re out to screw with me now. I’m getting two eggs a day which is great, don’t get me wrong. The issue is, I don’t know which ones are producing, if they’re rotating every other day or it’s the same ones. All I do think I’m...

Weirdest Things Your Chickens Have Done

So my silkies have established that I want the eggs that they’ve been laying even though they don’t really want them. Hence tonight when I went to gather everyone to put in the indoor coop for the night, I found all of them bundled up in their day coop and the daily lone egg they want nothing to...

Weirdest Things Your Chickens Have Done

So my rescues are hilarious! And I’m crying it’s so funny! I was sitting by the pen watching as each of the hens from biggest to smallest formed a line and walked into the big nesting box playing follow the leader… seconds later my roo looks up realizes he’s been forgotten and goes to follow...

    Weird color Silkie egg

That makes sense. I always like to be extra sure when it comes to animals I’m taking care of. I’ve often found things like eggs and droppings can tell a lot about their overall health such as deficiencies, potential illness and dietary needs, so I like to be positive that what I’m seeing is normal.

    Weird color Silkie egg

    Buff Orpington laying pinkish eggs?

one of my silkies just laid an egg like that! My camera couldn’t pick up the coloring, but they look the same. Is that common for silkies too?

    Weird color Silkie egg

So one of my rescues laid their first egg. Should a silkie egg be slightly pink? It doesn’t pick up on camera so no help their too faint, but when sat next to one of my white eggs from the grocery store it looks vaguely like a dyed Easter egg.

Official BYC Poll: How Often Do You Clean Your Coop?

I just like to stay on top of it, I find it’s easier to clean it when the mess is fresh. I like giving them a thick layer of bedding to do with what they will, makes it easy to pull on some nitrile gloves and just grab whatever is wet or dirtied. I like scrub brushes for anything stuck on and I...

Sneezing/Coughing a lot but mostly breathing normal...

No problem. I know from personal experience when you rescue animals the frantic chaos of trying to find something that works when presented with a scary and uncommon situation. God knows I’ve taken home some strange creatures in the past that not even google knew what to do with. I wish you the...

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Just got my first egg 1 egg from 3 hens all rescues. I was surprised. I find generally birds have a hard time when suddenly brought into a new environment. Don’t have a clue which one did it because when I went to check up on them in their little coop they were all on the opposite side of the...

    Healing feathers SOS!

Absolutely! I have a massive bag of oyster shells for them. They still get their usual dry feed, but I do love to add treats and fresher foods to their diets as I find that fresh it often best, the dry food is more balanced and offers everything they need so it’ll always be a staple in their...

Sneezing/Coughing a lot but mostly breathing normal...

I don’t know enough about chickens to know if this applies, but I’ve found that a lot of humans and dogs and other animals when they’ve experienced starvation they have a difficult time relearning how to digest their food and watered down foods like oatmeal or poriages or wetted kibble had made...

    Healing feathers SOS!

I’ve heard really good things about black soldier fly larvae. I could grab a big bag and add that to the mix? I didn’t know that about the grower feed, I know that chickens that are made to bulk up really quickly for the purpose of providing meat can have a lot of health issues. I chose the...
